Environment Protection Act

Comprehensive legislation governs the use of pesticides in the UK. These controls are set out and implemented through Part III of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA) and The Control of Pesticide Regulations 1986 (CO PR). [Pg.43]

A pesticide is defined, under the Food and Environment Protection Act (1985), as any substance, preparation or organism prepared or used for destroying any pest . Pesticides include herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, molliiscicides, roden-ticides, growth regulators, and masonry and timber preservatives. [Pg.43]

In Canada, Environment Canada, which was created in 1971, is the organization responsible for environmental regulation and protection. Environment Canada is divided into five Regional Offices Ontario, Atlantic, Prairie and Northern Region, Quebec, and Pacific and Yukon. Its environmental services are administered through the Canadian Environment Protection Act (CEPA) which includes the Air Quality Act, the Canadian Water Act, the Ocean Dumping Act, the Environment Contaminant Act, and the Department of the Environment Act. CEPA was recently amended (September 1999), placing more emphasis on pollution prevention and toxic substances. It also provides an increased enforcement authority and resources to carry out necessary research and development activities. [Pg.1303]

These Regulations made under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 all came into force by 1 January 1988. The Regulations apply to any pesticide or any substance used generally for plant control and protection against pests of all types, including antifouling paint used on boats. They do not apply to substances covered by other Acts like the Medicines Act 1968, The Food Safety Act 1990, those used in laboratories and a number of other specific applications. [Pg.482]

As the number of projects and private investments increased, bureaucratic delays became a concern. Laws were modified to overcome these delays. Between 1980 and 1998, nine Acts, Bills, and Amendments related to environment were enacted. These included the Eorest Conservation Act 1980, the Environment Protection Act 1986, the National Environment Appellate Authority Act 1997, and the Coastal Regulation Zone notification 1991. [Pg.604]
