Enol ethers chloride

Now the aldol reaction can occur the positive charge on the titanium-complexed carbonyl oxygen atom makes the aldehyde reactive enough to be attacked even by the not very nucleophilic silyl enol ether. Chloride ion removes the silyl group and the titanium alkoxide captures it again. This last step should not surprise you as any alkoxide (MeOLi for example) will react with Me3SiCl to form a silyl ether. [Pg.699]

The cyclic enol ether 255 from the functionalized 3-alkynoI 254 was converted into the furans 256 by the reaction of allyl chloride, and 257 by elimination of MeOH[132], The alkynes 258 and 260, which have two hydroxy groups at suitable positions, are converted into the cyclic acetals 259 and 261. Carcogran and frontalin have been prepared by this reaction[124]. [Pg.501]

A related tert-butylation procedure in which the silyl enol ether is added to a mixture of titanium tetrachloride and tert-butyl chloride gives rise to distinctly lower yields. This is also the case if the tertiary halide is added to a mixture of silyl enol ether and titanium tetrachloride. ... [Pg.99]

Dimethyl ketals and enol ethers are stable to the conditions of oxime formation (hydroxylamine acetate or hydroxylamine hydrochloride-pyridine). Thioketals and hemithioketals are cleaved to the parent ketones by cadmium carbonate and mercuric chloride. Desulfurization of thioketals with Raney nickel leads to the corresponding methylene compounds, while thioenol ethers give the corresponding olefin. In contrast, desulfurization of hemithioketals regenerates the parent ketone. ... [Pg.385]

Steroidal 17-cyanohydrins are relatively stable towards chromium trioxide in acetic acid (thus permitting oxidation of a 3-hydroxyl group ) and towards ethyl orthoformate in ethanolic hydrogen chloride (thus permitting enol ether formation of a 3-keto-A system ). Sodium and K-propanol reduction produces the 17j -hydroxy steroid, presumably by formation of the 17-ketone prior to reduction. ... [Pg.133]

The acid-catalyzed reaction of enol ethers 2 (X = OR) and enamines 2 (X = NR2) to form y-lactol derivatives proceeds with great ease even on silica gel chromatography. Vinyl sulfides 2 (X = SR) or vinyl chlorides 2 (X = Cl) are difficult to hydrolyze. [Pg.227]

The chiral (V-camphanoyl iminium ion 7, prepared by hydride abstraction from 2-camphanoyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline 6 (see Appendix) with triphenylcarbenium te-trafluoroborate, reacts with silyl enol ethers to give 1-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives with reasonable diastereoselectivity, 0°. On addition of titanium(IV) chloride, prior to the addition of the silyl enol ether, the diastereoselectivity gradually rises to an optimum at 2.5 equivalents of the Lewis acid, but the yield drops by 20%. [Pg.828]

Excellent /(-methyl selectivity is observed in the zinc chloride mediated condensation with 0-silyl enol ethers of 2-pyridinylmethyl thiopropionates109. Supposedly, chelate formation of zinc(II) with the sulfur and the nitrogen atom of the pyridinylmethyl thioester is essential for the high /(-selectivity. The geometry of the ketene acetal also seems to have some influence. [Pg.833]

A neat mixture of the /l-unsaturated ketone (10mmol), triethylsilane (11 mmol), and tris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(i) chloride (0.01 mmol) was stirred at 50°C for 2h, and the product silyl enol ether was distilled directly (yields 90-98%). [Pg.62]

The few exceptions to this general rule arise when the a-carbon carries a substituent that can stabilize carbonium-ion development well, such as oxygen or sulphur. For example, 1-trimethylsilyl trimethylsilyl enol ethers give products (72) derived from electrophilic attack at the /J-carbon, and the vinylsilane (1) reacts with a/3-unsaturated acid chlorides in a Nazarov cyclization (13) to give cyclopentenones such as (2) the isomeric vinylsilane (3), in which the directing effects are additive, gives the cyclopentenone (4) ... [Pg.102]

Rhodium-catalysed addition (10) of hydridosilanes (Chapter 17) to a/3-unsaturated carbonyl compounds can be performed regioselectively, to afford either the product of 1,2-addition, or, perhaps more usefully, that of 1,4-addition, i.e. the corresponding silyl enol ether this latter process is an excellent method for the regiospecific generation of silyl enol ethers. Of all catalyst systems investigated, tris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(l) chloride proved to be the best. [Pg.146]

The addition of sulphinyl chlorides to trimethylsilyl enol ether 138 affording a-ketosulphoxides 139 (equation 76) represents an extension of the reaction of sulphinyl chlorides with ketones. This reaction has attracted attention only recently. Sergeev and coworkers192 reported that treatment of sulphinyl chlorides with acyclic enol ethers afforded a-ketosulphoxides 139 in good to excellent yields. Meanwell and Johnson193 observed that in the case of cyclic enol ethers the corresponding sulphoxides were formed only in very low yields. They found, however, that the introduction of an equivalent amount of a Lewis acid into the reaction mixture markedly promotes the desired reaction, whereas the use of catalytic amounts of a Lewis acid led to a substantial reduction in the yield. This is most probably due to the formation of a complex, between the a-ketosulphoxide and the Lewis acid. [Pg.267]

This procedure illustrates a new three-step reaction sequence for the one-carbon ring expansion of cyclic ketones to the homologous tt,/3-unsaturated ketones. The key step in the sequence is the iron(III) chloride-induced cleavage of the central bond of trimethyl-silyloxycyclopropanes which me obtained by cyclopropanation of trimethylsilyl enol ethers. The procedure for the preparation of 1-trimethylsilyloxycyclohexene from cyclohexanone described in Part A is that of House, Czuba, Gall, and Olmstead. ... [Pg.60]

Certain other metal ions also exhibit catalysis in aqueous solution. Two important criteria are rate of ligand exchange and the acidity of the metal hydrate. Metal hydrates that are too acidic lead to hydrolysis of the silyl enol ether, whereas slow exchange limits the ability of catalysis to compete with other processes. Indium(III) chloride is a borderline catalysts by these criteria, but nevertheless is effective. The optimum solvent is 95 5 isopropanol-water. Under these conditions, the reaction is syn selective, suggesting a cyclic TS.63... [Pg.84]
