Encapsulation selectivity

The selectivity of the Ca2+ binding to the cavity of the cyclic peptide is quite high, especially when compared with Mg2+. The encapsulation selectivity for the Ag+-mediated dimer formation was examined by H NMR and ESI-TOF mass studies using monovalent alkali, divalent alkaline earth, or trivalent lanthanide ions, instead of Ca2+ (Figure 13.6). As a result, divalent Sr2+ and Ba2+ ions were found to form the dimeric isostructures only when excess... [Pg.503]

Table 1 Hsts representative examples of capsule shell materials used to produce commercial microcapsules along with preferred appHcations. The gelatin—gum arabic complex coacervate treated with glutaraldehyde is specified as nonedible for the intended appHcation, ie, carbonless copy paper, but it has been approved for limited consumption as a shell material for the encapsulation of selected food flavors. Shell material costs vary greatly. The cheapest acceptable shell materials capable of providing desired performance are favored, however, defining the optimal shell material for a given appHcation is not an easy task. The method of action of the polymers is thought to be encapsulation of drill cuttings and exposed shales on the borehole wall by the nonionic materials, and selective adsorption of anionic polymers on positively charged sites of exposed clays which limits the extent of possible swelling. The latter method appears to be tme particularly for certain anionic polymers because of the low concentrations that can be used to achieve shale protection (8). [Pg.182]

Selectivities to various isomers are more difficult to predict when metal oxides are used as catalysts. ZnO preferentially produced 79% 1-butene and several percent of i7j -2-butene [624-64-6] (75). CdO catalyst produced 55% 1-butene and 45% i7j -2-butene. It was also reported that while interconversion between 1-butene and i7j -2-butene was quite facile on CdO, cis—trans isomeri2ation was slow. This was attributed to the presence of a TT-aHyl anion intermediate (76). High i7j -2-butene selectivities were obtained with molybdenum carbonyl encapsulated in 2eohtes (77). On the other hand, deuteration using H1O2 catalyst produced predominantly the 1,4-addition product, trans-2-huX.en.e-d2 with no isotope scrambling (78). [Pg.342]

The most recently developed anode for the cathodic protection of steel in concrete is mixed metal oxide coated titanium mesh The anode mesh is made from commercially pure titanium sheet approximately 0-5-2mm thick depending upon the manufacturer, expanded to provide a diamond shaped mesh in the range of 35 x 75 to 100 x 200 mm. The mesh size selected is dictated by the required cathode current density and the mesh manufacturer. The anode mesh is supplied in strips which may be joined on site using spot welded connections to a titanium strip or niobium crimps, whilst electrical connections to the d.c. power source are made at selected locations in a suitably encapsulated or crimped connection. The mesh is then fitted to the concrete using non-metallic fixings. [Pg.191]

DOX, as EPI seems to form fewer amounts of ROS and secondary alcohol metabolite, (ii) encapsulation of anthracyclines in uncoated or pegylated liposomes that ensure a good drug delivery to the tumor but not to the heart, (iii) conjugation of anthracyclines with chemical moieties that are selectively recognized by the tumor cells, (iv) coadministration of dexrazoxane, an iron chelator that diminishes the disturbances of iron metabolism and free radical formation in the heart, and (v) administration of anthracyclines by slow infusion rather than 5-10 min bolus (Table 1). Pharmacological interventions with antioxidants have also been considered, but the available clinical studies do not attest to an efficacy of this strategy. [Pg.95]

The sampling of solution for activity measurement is carried out by filtration with 0.22 pm Millex filter (Millipore Co.) which is encapsuled and attached to a syringe for handy operation. The randomly selected filtrates are further passed through Amicon Centriflo membrane filter (CF-25) of 2 nm pore size. The activities measured for the filtrates from the two different pore sizes are observed to be identical within experimental error. Activities are measured by a liquid scintillation counter. For each sample solution, triplicate samplings and activity measurements are undertaken and the average of three values is used for calculation. Absorption spectra of experimental solutions are measured using a Beckman UV 5260 spectrophotometer for the analysis of oxidation states of dissolved Pu ions. [Pg.317]

The resolution of racemic ethyl 2-chloropropionate with aliphatic and aromatic amines using Candida cylindracea lipase (CCL) [28] was one of the first examples that showed the possibilities of this kind of processes for the resolution of racemic esters or the preparation of chiral amides in benign conditions. Normally, in these enzymatic aminolysis reactions the enzyme is selective toward the (S)-isomer of the ester. Recently, the resolution ofthis ester has been carried out through a dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) via aminolysis catalyzed by encapsulated CCL in the presence of triphenylphosphonium chloride immobilized on Merrifield resin (Scheme 7.13). This process has allowed the preparation of (S)-amides with high isolated yields and good enantiomeric excesses [29]. [Pg.179]

One example has used a manganese porphyrin and iodobenzene encapsulated within a dendrimer to bring about shape-selective epox-idation of alkenes. The important aspect of catalysts is that the reactants can move rapidly to the active site, and that the products can be removed rapidly from the active site and expelled from the dendrimer. [Pg.144]

Presently, several clinical trials with liposome-encapsulated agents are under way and more are planned (Zonneveld and Crommelin, 1988 Klausner, 1988). During the last 5 years, key issues related to the pharmaceutical manufacturing of liposomes such as stability, sterilization, upscaling, and reproducibility have been successfully addressed. Although it is generally believed that a proper selection of the bi-layer components can minimize the occurrence of toxic effects due to the use of natural body constituents, the issue of liposome-related toxicity is not a trivial one and should be carefully studied,... [Pg.310]

A (Figure 4.9). The diameter of such a neck, 2.3 A, is sufficiently large for a linear C-C chain to pass, but too small to also be an equilibrium adsorption position. The largest compound allowed inside the pores is a linear molecule limited in length to four carbon atoms due to the distance between two subsequent necks [103]. Another example of shape-selective behavior is found in a Zn-based MOF able to encapsulate linear hexane while branched hexanes are blocked [104]. [Pg.88]

In the present study, we report the synthesis, characterisation and catalytic properties (in selective oxidation reactions) of copper acetate, copper tetradecachlorophthalocyanine and copper tetranitrophthalocyanine encapsulated in molecular sieves Na-X, Na-Y, MCM-22 and VPI-5. Both molecular oxygen and aqueous HjOj have been used as the oxidants. The... [Pg.181]
