Enabling publication

The hydrographic surveys for the Budischev s navigation chart were added to the results of the Caucasian coast inventory conducted in 1816 by Captain F.F. Bellinsgausen and enabled publication in 1817 of the General map of the Black and Azov Seas.

Research of a more applied character is funded under the 6th Framework Programme (Scientific Support to Policy) to underpin the formulation and implementation of Community Policies. The waste management situation in Austria is presented, and it is explained that Baufeld-Austria GmbH has developed a method and concept, with the eooperation of cement plant experts, to enable some Austrian eement factories to responsibly use plastics waste as an energy source. The conditions used for developing the model, relating to fuel quality, environmental proteetion, and public health, are explained. The Baufeld model for processing of plastics waste is then described. Details of future plans are included.

Patents are not the only option to promote innovation. Systems of research grants awarded by governments have existed for centuries. Such systems enable innovations to reach the public domain, making them accessible for everyone.
