Home Laundry Appliance Manufacturers - Drivers of Change Socioeconomics and Enablers... [Pg.19]

Commercial laundry dryers can not be easily vented to the outside in the same way that home laundry dryers are. Because of this fact, the moist air is passed through a condenser where the water will accumulate. If there is no direct water drain, the water is directed to a holding tank. The water level is monitored using a magnetic float. When the water rises to the full level, the reed sensor is activated and shuts down the dryer. Once the water is removed, the reed sensor is deactivated, enabling the dryer to operate. [Pg.135]

The chemical components of manufactured products, from circuit boards to laundry detergents, provide specific functional or performance characteristics. These characteristics, thefunctional use [11], enable the components, and ultimately the end-use... [Pg.112]

Procter Gamble developed a completely different approach to remedy the lack of fabric softener in washers. They developed a sphere dispenser for ultra fabric softeners designed to be incorporated in the laundry before the wash and to deliver 28 ml of product in the heart of the load at the beginning of the rinse. The Downy Ball has a cap that opens during the spin cycle because of centrifugal force, enabling the softener to flow out [78],... [Pg.519]

Lime soap dispersing agents (LSDA) are surfactants that enable soap to act as an effective laundry detergent in hard water without the deposition of insoluble calcium soap. For a surfactant to act as an LSDA, it must possess a bulky... [Pg.364]

The power of directed evolution is now well documented. These methods are robust and are able to improve industrial enzymes in reasonably short times. The first laboratory-evolved enzymes are now used commercially in laundry detergents12011 other commercial applications are on the horizon. Directed evolution may well help move biocatalysis from an enabling tool to a lowest cost approach . It also offers new opportunities to engineer multi-enzyme pathways and even whole microbes [69- 224> 2251, which will lead to straightforward single-pot, multi-enzyme bioconversions and new fermentation processes based on green resources such as glucose or inexpensive waste materials. [Pg.132]

Even more outrageous is the claim made for the Laundry Disk, a product that is supposed to enable us to wash our... [Pg.25]

For an assessment of the sustainability profile, it is not enough to look at laundry detergent surfactants in isolation the whole life-cycle has to be taken into account. In order to arrive at soundly based conclusions, the total washing process must be analyzed. To enable the findings for different systems to be compared, all results must be related to a functional unit e.g. the cleaning of 1 kg of laundry. A systematic analysis of the total process is then carried out in the context of a so-called life-cycle assessment (LCA), in which all the system s inputs and outputs are systematically recorded and assessed. ... [Pg.57]

In recent years, there has been a growing use of polypropylene materials in laundry appliances. Advances in mechanical performance and corrosion resistance have increasingly enabled advanced polyolefins to replace stainless steel in appliances, providing significant advantages in terms of material costs, manufacturing processes, and overall product design. [Pg.50]
