In addition to testing the system components, a test of software functionality would be performed to test the system software operation and electronic records and electronic signatures (ERES) compliance (security, data integrity, data backup, and archive). In order to test the software functionality, a predetermined set of instructions can be entered step by step into the system. The system responses are then compared to the expected outcomes of the instruction and any problems with the execution are determined. Some vendors will provide a standard set of data which can be processed by the system to verify the data-handling capability of the system. [Pg.802]

The point at which data becomes an electronic record should reflect its origin and intended purpose. For manufacturing and laboratory records this may be the initial point of data acquisition but for a clinical trail report it may be from the report s first official use. Electronic records can be divided into three categories based on their intended purposes instructions, events, and reviews. Using these categories, it is possible to determine when audit trails are applicable. Table 22-2 summarizes these concerns and needs. [Pg.147]

In process controls that the operator runs during production are mentioned separately on the BPI. In the BPI model a separate section is reserved for these in-process controls.
