Effects on Competition

Altogether, there are wanted and unwanted competitions on very different levels, which can result in very different intended and unintended -consequences. From this the following fundamental statements can be derived. [Pg.118]

Competitions do not lead per se to a lack of land areas or biomass. There are various compensation possibilities e.g. expansion of the cultivated land areas, import, substitution, higher yields). Additionally there will be increasing price, which can be coimected with appropriate feedback effects and therefore do not have to be assessed negatively a priori. [Pg.118]

Since the covering of the energy demand by biomass is supported by the legal framework, the increase of prices must be kept as small as possible. This is true because the markets for food, fodder and raw material e.g. wood) coupled with the bioenergy markets should not be disturbed in a long lasting way. [Pg.118]

Presumably possible increase of prices can be kept small if the increase in the demand (concerning bioenergy) corresponds with the increase of supply (due to land areas no longer needed for food and fodder production). The speed of the expansion of the use of bioenergy within the energy system therefore should be oriented at the technical and organizational possibilities for the expansion of the biomass production internationally it might be essential for the volatility of the markets. [Pg.118]

Uzbekistan classification and differentiation of cotton is effected immediately after the harvest. At present, cotton quality evaluation is carried out by cotton mill laboratories. This is felt to be undesirable (because of the effect on competitiveness and prices). Cotton is... [Pg.135]

The competition for oligomeric radicals also includes particles that have been created. In miniemulsion polymerizations, the nucleation of one droplet results in the formation of one particle of equal surface area. Therefore, nucleation therein has little effect on competition for radicals. This is not so with macroemulsions, since both micellar and homogeneous nucleation result in a large shift in the surface area from micelles to particles as the particles are created and grow. [Pg.142]

Use urines from males that differ in their AGD as stimuli and record the responses of other males. Do you find fresh urine from a male with a large AGD more potent than that from a male with a shorter AGD What does it tell us about prenatal effects on competitiveness in later Ufe ... [Pg.118]

D) any means of achieving the objective of the order while minimizing adverse effects on competition or disruption or dislocation of manufacturing and other commercial practices consistent with the public health and safety. [Pg.341]

The second two issues are directed at a measurement of the standard s costs. (C) is aimed at the direct burdens which the standard may impose on consumers. In light of the consumer need which the product satisfies, the Commission is directed to determine to what extent the standard may increase product cost or decrease product availability and utility. (D), on the other hand, is aimed at the indirect burdens the standard may impose on consumers. It encompasses the standard s adverse effects on competition (perhaps by driving smaller concerns out of business) and on dislocation of manufacturing and other commercial practices (perhaps by creating unemployment or requiring reconstructions of plant and equipment). [Pg.341]

A field-by-field analysis shows that the citation gap is generally wider in areas of basic research, where an increase in knowledge is likely to have a particularly marked effect on competitiveness. The gap is noticeable in medicine, and is particularly marked in basic life sciences, pre-clinical medicine, and health sciences. It is relatively small in fields such as the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering. [Pg.23]

The influence of overlap on the stabilization or destabilization of Pauling 3-electron bonds has been discussed in Section 3-10, together with the consequent effect on competition between planarity and pyramidalization for radicals such as CH3, CHjF, CHFj and CF3. Each of CF3 and NCI3 has 25 valence-shell electrons. [Pg.84]
