Over the past years considerable attention has been paid to the dispersing system since this controls the porosity of the particle. This is important both to ensure quick removal of vinyl chloride monomer after polymerisation and also to achieve easy processing and dry blendable polymers. Amongst materials quoted as protective colloids are vinyl acetate-maleic anhydride copolymers, fatty acid esters of glycerol, ethylene glycol and pentaerythritol, and, more recently, mixed cellulose ethers and partially hydrolysed polyfvinyl acetate). Decision Process. In many cases, the decision regarding the need for exposure reduction measures is obvious and no formal statistical procedure is necessary. Orifice viscometers, also called efflux or cup viscometers, are commonly used to measure and control flow properties in the manufacture, processing, and appHcation of inks, paints, adhesives, and lubricating oils. Their design answered the need for simple, easy-to-operate viscometers in areas where precision and accuracy are not particularly important. In these situations knowledge of a tme viscosity is uimecessary, and the efflux time of a fixed volume of Hquid is a sufficient indication of the fluidity of the material. In the interest of energy conversion, process heat can be obtained from a heat recovery unit in which heat is recovered from turbine or reciprocating engine exhaust. In a heat recovery unit, an exhaust gas flows over finned tubes carrying the fluid to be heated. The hot exhaust gas (9()0"F to I.2(K) F) heats the fluid in the tubes in a manner similar to that in which air cools the fluid in an aerial cooler. It is also possible to recover heat from exhausts by routing the exhaust duct directly through a fluid bath. The latter option is relatively inefficient but easy to install and control. [Pg.83]

Polyarylate (PAR)-b-PSt and PAR-b-PMMA for compatibiiizers are described 135,39,40). The addition of PAR-b-PSt (1-10 parts) to 100 parts of a blend of PAR-PSt (7w-3w) resulted in improvement of the tensile and flexural modulus (Fig. 4), and PSt dispersed particles were diminished from 1-5 microns to an order that is undetectable by SEM, indicating the excellent, compatibilizing effect of the block copolymer. The alloy thus formed exert the characteristic of PAR, an engineering plastic, as well as easy processability of PSt. Addition of PAR-b-PMMA (3 or 8 parts) to 100 parts of a blend of PAR-polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) (7w-3w) resulted in improved microdispersed state of PVDF due to compatibility of PMMA with PVDF, while segregation of PVDF onto the surface was controlled. [Pg.761]
