The extent of anthropogenic pollution can be assessed by means of index and limit values which are often fixed officially. A comparison between the index values of the KLOKE or Dutch lists (Tab. 9-11) and the pollutant values estimated by kriging enables the following conclusions to be drawn ... [Pg.354]

The index values of the Dutch list [1988] are lower than those of the KLOKE list [HEIN and SCHWEDT, 1993]. The concentrations of the element Pb exceed the values of the category for investigations for sanitation (category C) at two locations, i.e. the eastern brink of the slagheaps and the above-mentioned railway embankment. [Pg.354]

Bunker and McWilliams found that two beverages prepared from instant cocoa (with Dutch process cocoa) contained 10 to 17 mg caffeine per cup.37 Table 7 lists the theobromine and caffeine concentration of hot cocoa and chocolate milk prepared from instant mixes. Zoumas et al. analyzed five commercial hot cocoa mixes and reported an average of 65 mg per serving of theobromine and 4 mg per serving of caffeine.28 Similar results were reported by Blauch and Tarka.36... [Pg.183]

Europe s controversy over soft PVC toys looks set to continue after EU health experts rejected the best available method for assessing the dangers to children. The so-called Dutch migration test was designed to mimic the way phthalate softeners leak out of PVC when it is sucked or chewed. Manufacturers had hoped the EU s Scientific Committee for Toxicity, Ecotoxicity and the Environment would accept the method as a standard test for phthalate migration, allowing it to be used across the EU, but the committee ruled that the Dutch test was unreliable. It also rejected a similar test developed in the UK, and issued a list of changes that would have to be made before either... [Pg.87]

Along with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, lignocellulosic biomass also contains hetero elements such as alkali and other metals. The amounts of these ashes vary over a broad range, from 30-50 wt.% in chicken litter to 1-3 wt.% in wood. Moisture is always present in lignocellulosic biomass and can be up to 80 wt.% in some cases. Detailed information on the composition of biomasses can be found in data bases, e.g., Phyllis [21] from the Dutch Energy Research Foundation (ECN). Table 6.2 lists the compositions of some typical biomasses. [Pg.123]

Each phase consists of several sub-phases, and the use of specific tools as listed below. The success of the methodology in the field was explored in a study of Dutch... [Pg.495]

We thank the authors of the numerous rosette publications, which names are on the reference list, theEU for the MCR Grant to Dr. J. J. Garcia-L6pez and the Dutch Technology Foundation for financial support (project number TST 4624) to Dr. J.M.C.A. Kerckhoffs. Dr. M. Crego-Calama s research has been made possible by a fellowship of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Science. [Pg.77]

MCS would have been fashionable for quite a long time, since the early 1950s. I myself had such an experience when I placed an article about MCS on Wikipedia (Dutch version), which was immediately edited by a doctor. He added a study about food allergies, which has nothing to do with MCS. Further editing and modifications by this doctor revealed how he viewed MCS patients. After some discussion, which also involved other MCS patients, a compromise was reached. Yet the commentary from this doctor still has nothing to do with MCS. The most important thing was that MCS is listed on Wikipedia and that people can find their way to more information. [Pg.57]

Wittig s work was later confirmed and extended by Russian, Dutch, and Japanese groups, who were able to prepare other pentaalkylantimony compounds using his method, which consisted of the reaction of trialkyl (or tetraalkyl) antimony halides with alkyllithium reagents. Table IV lists some of the important examples. [Pg.206]

Shell is always worth listening to. As the Economist magazine has noted, the only oil company to anticipate both 1973 s oil-price boom and 1986 s bust was Royal Dutch/Shell. 36 Throughout the 1990s, Royal Dutch/Shell found itself atop the list of the world s most profitable companies, thanks in large part to its excellence in strategic planning. In 2002, the company had sales of 179 billion, profits of more than 9 billion, and more than 100,000 employees in 132 countries. [Pg.148]

Before a GC/MS system is packed and sent for a mission, it is tested according to the procedures that are contained in the respective work instructions listed below (Table 1). After completion of the testing, the OPCW Office of Internal Oversight (OIO) audits if all criteria have been met. If satisfied, this office issues a certificate for the system, which is valid for the use of the system for a particular mission. The OPCW Laboratory is accredited for this process by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. [Pg.57]

The examples of interwoven and knotted structures have prevailed in all walks of architecture, symbolism and art, and it is not our aim here to give an exhaustive list of where one may encounter different representations of knots. Be that as it may, this short journey through the history of knot representation would not be complete without mentioning the great Dutch graphical artist M.C. Escher, whose beautiful representations of the Mobius strip and the trefoil knot are renowned. They prove a great inspiration for chemists wishing to adorn the covers of chemistry journals. [Pg.112]
