Doped-Rutile Pigments

Pigment Brown 45 (MnWTi). As it has become apparent that antimony is not bio-available from doped rutiles, the trend for such substitutions with respect to food contact applications has strongly diminished. A more scientific survey on colored titanium MMO pigments is given by Maloney [3.93]. [Pg.117]

The hydrolysis product is washed, treated with a Ti(III) solution to remove adsorbed heavy metal ions (Fe, Cr, Mn, V) or bleached with aluminum and acids and calcined at temperatures of ca. 1000°C. With doping or an appropriate choice of additive, latterly rutilization nucleating seeds, before calcination, anatase or rutile pigments can be produced in the calcination process. [Pg.555]

Doping the crystal lattice and coating the surface with metal oxides or hydroxides has reduced the photocatalytic polymer decomposition caused by titanium dioxide to such an extent that all stability requirements can be met. Since anatase is generally more photoactive than rutile, aftertreated and/or lattice-stabilized rutile pigments are preferred for exterior applications (exposure to sunlight). [Pg.144]

Titania Titania has three common polymorphs, anatase, rutile, and brookite, and is widely used as a white pigment The technological applications are as a photocatalyst [293], the removal of organic pollutants from water, and in photovoltaic devices [294] which convert light to electricity. Bulk titania is a n-type semiconductor, the conductivity of which can be enhanced by either reduction or doping. [Pg.121]

The rutile and anatase phases of titanium dioxide have been widely studied in recent years. The rutile form is used as a white pigment and opacifier, the anatase phase finds applications in photo catalysts and nanostructured solar cells. La2Cu04 has attracted considerable research efforts as it was found to become a high-Tc superconductor (Tc = 35 K) when properly doped with Sr or Ba atoms. Both Ti02 modifications contain 6 atoms (two formula units) in the primitive cell. [Pg.35]

Yellow Antimony-nickel-codoped rutile was the first yellow pigment used in 2000 in the glaze doped with anatase. Ni(N03)2-9H20 and SbCls dissolved and complexed with citrates at adequate pH for inkjet applications react with the anatase in the glaze during firing to produce the antimony-nickel-codoped rutile yellow pigment. [Pg.1164]
