Every developed nation has experienced product tampering incidents. The principal difference between domestic and foreign incidents is the motive of the tamperers. In the United States, typically random tampering without prior threat occurs whereas outside the United States, extortion prior to injury occurs, with money appearing to be the primary motive. Most developed nations are either implementing or modifying their rules on the use of tamper-evident packaging. Some features as they are used in the United States would have to be modified or the use of a secondary feature required to meet the standards of various other countries. 

A DOT regulation covers both domestic and international shipping (9). For transportation safety, the DOT has information for first responders to incidents involving elemental phosphoms (10). In addition, the Chemtrec phone number 1-800-424-9300 accesses DOT emergency information and assistance in the United States. Also, the phosphoms producers in the United States have estabUshed a Phosphoms Emergency Response Team (PERT) to assist in handling P emergencies. 

Wastewater Treatment Plants. Numerous studies have shown that phthalates in wastewater systems are removed to a significant extent by treatment plants. The concentration of phthalates in both domestic and industrial wastewater was measured before and after treatment (55). The total level of phthalates in domestic effluent was reduced by treatment from 32.7 to 0.92 )-lg/L and in industrial effluent from 93.6 to 1.06 )-lg/L. Thus between 97 and 99% of the phthalates are removed from wastewater by treatment plants. 

Amino molding compounds can be compression, injection, or transfer molded. Urea molding compound has found wide use and acceptance in the electrical surface wiring device industry. Typical appHcations are circuit breakers, switches, wall plates, and duplex outlets. Urea is also used in closures, stove hardware, buttons, and small housings. Melamine molding compound is used primarily in dinnerware appHcations for both domestic and institutional use. It is also used in electrical wiring devices, ashtrays, buttons, and housings. 

Marine transportation is done by ship or barge in permanent containers on board or by ISO containers. Propylene oxide can be shipped by air freight, but specific regulations for domestic and international transport must be foHowed. No shipment of propylene oxide can be made on passenger ships or airlines (3,233).

In each country of the modem world, sugar production and trade play major social, pohtical, and economical roles. In order to regulate and protect export, import, stocks, subsidies, tariffs, etc, an enormous number of laws have been enacted and agreements concluded on sugar, both domestically and internationally. Pewter. Modem pewter may have a composition of 90—95 wt % tin, 1—8 wt % antimony, and 0.5—3 wt % copper. Lead should be avoided by contemporary craftsman because it causes the metal surface to blacken with age. Pewter metal can be compressed, bent, spun, and formed into any shape, as weh as being easily cast. A wide variety of consumer articles ate available from domestic and foreign manufacturers. Reproductions of pewter objects from colonial times, some cast from the original molds, ate popular. The annual U.S. production of pewter exceeds 1100 t. 

Balantidiasis (balantidiosis, balantidial dysentery), an intestinal disease seen almost worldwide, is caused by the large ciUated protozoan, balantidium coll The organism is usually found in the lumen of the large intestine of humans and animals. Cysts formed in the lumen of the colon or in freshly evacuated feces of humans or domesticated and wild animals, can colonize the colon and terminal ileum of new hosts by the latter s ingestion of contaminated food or water. The hog has been found to be the most heavily parasitized host. Its association with the rat may be a means for maintaining a reservoir infection in the two animals. 

DSM America produces caprolactam only for merchant sales, both domestic and foreign. BASF is a customer, foUowiag acquisition of Enka s United States fiber and plastics plants, and also a captive producer of caprolactam. AUied-Signal s production is primarily captive for nylon-6 fibers and plastics, but substantial amounts are supplied to the export market.

The problems with jojoba as a commercial crop are the usual ones of domestication and cultivation. It is a slow-growing plant, available only in the wild and therefore has very wide genetic variabiUty. Efforts are underway to select the most promising variants and cultivate these as a crop in the southwestern United States deserts (7). A possible alternative for producing jojoba oil is to culture plant embryos in bioreactors (see Cell culture technology). 

Automotive Refinish Paints. Paint for appHcation to automobiles after they have left the assembly plant is a significant market. Although some of this paint is used for fuU repainting, especiaHy of commercial tmcks, most is used for repairs after accidents, commonly just one door or part of a fender, and so forth. In order to be able to serve this market, it is necessary to supply paints that match the colors of aH cars and tmcks, both domestic and imported, that have been manufactured over the previous ten years or so. Repair paints for the larger volume car colors are manufactured and stocked, but for the smaller volume colors formulas are suppHed by the coatings manufacturer to the paint distributor that permit a reasonable color match for any car by mixing standard bases. 

The emphasis here is primarily on the combustion of fuel oils for domestic and industrial appHcations.
