There are many other standards that offer guidance on the safe design of electrical systems and equipment. It is impracticable to list them all here but two are worthy of mention. BS EN 60204 Safety of machinery - electrical parts of machinery, is a CEN/CENELEC Type B standard (see Chapter 13) with comprehensive guidance on electrical safety principles relating to machinery. The BS EN 60335 series of standards provides equally comprehensive guidance relating to electrical safety in commercial and domestic equipment such as food mixers, meat sheers, white goods, fly electrocutors and so on. [Pg.67]

The key properties here are hardness and wear resistance, ability to. stand minor knocks and dents without cracking and resistance to various domestic chemicals. These vary with type of appliance, e.g. detergent solutions are important for washing machines, while a fridge will be required to withstand fruit juices, ketchup and polishes. Good colour and appearance in white and mainly pastel shades will be expected. Corrosion resistance is required, especially for washing machines, and domestic appliances frequently have to withstand humid conditions in kitchens. [Pg.631]
