Disease targets

The process of target identification analyzes a complex disease process by dissecting it into its fundamental components. This makes it possible to identify the one that is most integral to the manifestation of the disease. Target identification aims to understand the biological processes related to a disease, and to identify its mechanism and the structure of individual elements of the disease. Commonly these individual elements are receptors, enzymes, etc., which become the target of new drugs. [Pg.600]

Instrumentation. The future of radiopharmaceuticals is highly dependent on imaging instmmentation. Instmmental methods can evolve rapidly. Performance and characteristics of these instmments are important in the choice of disease target, lesion size, location, and contrast. [Pg.485]

Because the clinical data from these three failed trials have not been reported in any detail, it is hard to determine whether their lack of efficacy is attributable to the bioavailability of the molecules themselves or whether it could be more directly related to the role of the receptors CCR1 and CXCR3 in the pathogenesis of the diseases targeted. More likely, the heterogeneity of autoimmune... [Pg.383]

In addition, bioinformatics databases have been expanded to integrate data on absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity of drugs. Through these comprehensive sets of data, scientists have at their disposal powerful means to relate disease targets and their cellular functions to physiological and pathological processes. [Pg.68]

The rational approach commences with an understanding of the disease targets. The structures of the targets, including the active sites, are studied using X-ray crystallography and NMR. [Pg.89]
