Diethylamino coumarins

The comparison of three coumarin compounds, 4-(bromomethyl)-7-methoxy-coumarin (Br-MMC), 7-(diethylamino)coumarin-3-carbohydrazide (DCCH), and 7-(diethylamino)-3-[(4-(iodoacetyl)amino)phenyl]-4-methylcoumarin(DCIA) as potential chemiluminescence with HPLC was reported by Grayeshi and Vasto (35) (see Chemical Structure 2). 

The diethylamino coumarins 40 and 41 and the rigid analog 42 have strongly fluorescent intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) states whose emission quantum yields and lifetimes decrease with the increasing polarity of the solvent because the activation energy necessary to reach the TICT from the ICT state is lowered in polar media. The TICT state of these molecules is nonfluorescent. Addition of 6 x 10 M y-CD increased sixfold the ICT emission of 40 and 41, whereas the increase observed for 42 was only 1.3-fold. The increase in the fluorescence yield was attributed to the inclusion of the dyes in the y-CD cavity. 

Sphingolipid phosphate analogues bearing 7-(diethylamino)-coumarin (56) and 4-bromo-5-hydroxy-2-nitrobenzhydryl (57) groups in a photolabile ester bond have been synthesized by Bittman and co-workers. " The ability of caged ceramide 1-phosphate (CIP, (58)) conjugates to deliver CIP into mammalian cell cultures on exposure to visible light has been assessed, too.
