Dextromethorphan solution

Other drugs in combination with a sweetening agent were also studied, dextromethorphan hydrobromide [21], doxycycline hydrochloride [21], erythromycin [23], chloramphenicol [23], ampicillin [23] and cefpodoxime proxetil [23] as bitter drugs and simple syrup (2.5M sucrose solution, used as a flavoring agent prescribed by The Japanese... [Pg.722]

X 10 ml of chloroform. The chloroform layers are combined and evaporated to dryness using a rotary evaporator. The residue is dissolved in ca 10 ml of methanol and transferred to a 100 ml volumetric flask and then diluted to volume with mobile phase. The areas of the peaks obtained from the linctus extract are compared with a solution containing pseudoephedrine.HCl, dextromethorphan.HBr and triprolidine.HCl (structures shown in Fig. 11.14) at the same concentrations as would be expected in the linctus extract. [Pg.258]

In this situation, if the hydrogen ion concentration increases, the proportion of drug in the ionized form (the original condition) increases. Therefore, consequences of a shift in pH away from equilibrium conditions are opposite for weak acids and weak bases. For example, a solution of the weak base dextromethorphan (a drug present in cough preparations with a pfCa of 9.2) in the stomach (pH 1) will have approximately 1 of every 160,000,000 molecules in the unionized form. Obviously, gastric absorption will be significantly curtailed. [Pg.30]

In the coincubation experiment, the NCE is incubated at 0.3, 3, and 30 pM in wells containing a mixture of microsomal protein (final concentration 0.2-0.4mg/ mL) and probe substrates at concentrations that approximate the Km for each reaction (tolbutamide [200 pM, dextromethorphan [16pM], and testosterone [lOOpM] for CYPs 2C9, 2D6, and 3A4, respectively) in a 50 mM Tris-acetate buffer, pH 7.4, containing 150mM KC1. The plates are prewarmed at 37°C for 5 min. The reactions are initiated by the addition of 20 pL of a 10 mM solution of NADPH prepared in buffer (final concentration, 1 mM) followed by a brief shaking. The total volume of the reaction mixture is 200 pL. Following an incubation period of approximately 15 min, the reactions are terminated by the addition of 35% perchloric acid followed... [Pg.101]

Recent human and animals studies have found that dextromethorphan reduces the intensity of post-surgical pain [1-4]. A meta-analysis of preemptive administration of dextromethorphan for acute post-operative pain management demonstrated proof of efficacy (reduction in opioid requirements) [1]. A study performed by Henderson and coworkers [4] found that dextromethorphan reduces post operative pain intensity and morphine dose requirements in patients recovering from abdominal hysterectomy. Fifty patients were randomized to receive a preemptive oral dose of dextromethorphan 40 mg, then 40 mg three times per day for the next 2 days, or placebo solution at identical times. Median pain scores at rest were significantly lower at 48 and 72 hrs and mean IV-PCA morphine consumption was reduced in the dextromethorphan group (1.1 vs 1.5 mg/h) P = 0.54. [Pg.322]

Chia and coworkers [5] evaluated the effectiveness of dextromethorphan in 60 patients recovering from major abdominal surgery. Thirty patients received an IV infusion of dextromethorphan 5 mg/kg before anesthetic induction (Pre group), whereas the remaining 30 patients received the same volume of saline solution, followed by a post-operative IV infusion of dextromethorphan 5 mg/kg (Post group). Patients in the Pre group received the same volume of saline solution post-operatively. AH patients were then treated... [Pg.322]

Dextromethorphan hydrobromide, CigH250N,HBr,H20, Mol. Wt. 370-3, is assayed in the B,P,C, by extracting about 0-3 g with chloroform from sodium hydroxide solution and titrating the extracts directly with 0-02N perchloric acid using methyl red as indicator, 1 ml 0-02N = 0-007047g of Ci8H250N,HBr. [Pg.500]
