Developing Region

In the United States, fibers and injection mol ding are the main appHcations for polypropylene (Table 8), followed by film. In Europe and Japan, injection mol ding appHcations predominate (Table 10). This market area is more likely to decline in economic recession, as consumers postpone purchases of apphances and automobiles. Film appHcations are important in both regions, but fibers are a much less important use for polypropylene in Japan than in other developed regions. The heavy use of polypropylene nonwovens in the manufacture of disposable diapers and similar products, and the wide use of polypropylene carpets in the United States, account for the greater consumption of fibers. 

Bleaching power is now much less used than formerly in highly industrialized countries hut is still manufactured on a large scale in less-developed regions. In the USA its production peaked at 133000 tonnes in 1923 but had fallen to 23600 tonnes by 1955 and has not been reported since, though —1160 tonnes per annum were imported during the 1980s. 

At large distances from the nozzle, the axial velocity exhibits self-preserving similarity in that, when plotted in the above dimensionless form, velocity profiles at all cross-sections downstream collapse onto a single curve. It is probable that strict similarity is preserved only at axial distances in excess of 30-40 diameters. However, the above formulation is frequently used to describe the velocity profile at all points downstream of the flow development region. For work performed with M. citrifolia, the numerical values recommended by Panchapakesan and Lumley [131] for the constants K and C in Eqs. Patent pirates in these countries freely copy (pirate) innovator drugs and drug products that are under patent protection in the United States and elsewhere without compensating patent holders. Well-documented cases exist where the estrogens inhibit the expression of some genes. These are usually transcribed by means of the constitutive activity of powerful promoters. The inhibition is a result of the steric interposition of the receptor dimer in the development region of the gene, which thereby recruits corepressors that interrupt the prior instigator effect in the absence of receptor (McKenna et al. 1999 Mester et al. 1995 Smith et al. 1997 Tora et al. 1989).

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 provide for interstate commissions on air pollution control, which are to develop regional strategies for cleaning up air pollution. The 1990 amendments also cover pollution that originates in nearby countries, such as Mexico and Canada, and drifts into the United States as well as pollution from the United States that reaches Canada and Mexico.

The impact of TRIPS-plus IP standards on medicines access will be particularly harmful In sub-Saharan African countries where approximately 25 million people are infected with HIV (UNAIDS 2004), more than 1.5 million TB cases occur each year (WHO 2002), and 90 per cent of malaria deaths occur, with approximately 3,000 deaths each day (WHO 1998a). Yet, as in other developing regions, in sub-Saharan Africa, one in three people lack access to essential medicines, a figure that rises to one in two in the most impoverished parts of Africa (WHO 1998b). 

Most solid tumors develop regions of low oxygen tension because of an imbalance in oxygen supply and consumption. Clinical and experimental evidence suggests that tumor hypoxia is associated with a more aggressive phenotype (Hockel and Vaupel 2001 Vaupel 2008). Hypoxic tumor cells are resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It is therefore rational to target the hypoxic regions of tumors or disrupt events initiated by hypoxia (Melillo 2004).
