The history of the Kresge-Hooker Science Library at Wayne State University is briefly reviewed. Some outstanding items of the periodical collection are enumerated, as well as some collectors items of interest to historians of chemistry. Current subscriptions to scientific periodicals include numerous titles which are not found widely in other libraries in this country. An abbreviated list of such periodicals has been compiled. Close proximity of the Detroit Public Library to the Kresge-Hooker Science Library on Wayne s campus, located in the heart of the city, provides excellent science library facilities for the students of that large urban university, the chemical and engineering industries, and the citizenry of Detroit alike. [Pg.288]

The Technology Department of the Detroit Public Library receives about 60% of the periodicals indexed by the Engineering Index and is especially strong in the engineering fields related to the automobile industry. It held in 1956 between 6000 and 8000 books and between 5000 and 6000 volumes of periodicals pertaining to the automobile industry. Also included were over 100,000 volumes of automobile trade literature and catalogs, in addition to over 100,000 photographs of motor vehicles. [Pg.294]

The Detroit Public Library also cooperates in the plan and has as its responsibility the acquisition of foreign literature on the Engineering and Technology of Motor Vehicles and Cycles, again with certain minor exceptions. This area is included in the Library of Congress Classification Numbers (TL 1-499). [Pg.294]

The Kresge-Hooker Science Library of Wayne State University possesses numerous complete sets of important scientific and technical journals, yearbooks and review serials, which are supplemented by the extensive holdings of the Technology Department of Detroit Public Library. Facilities provided include the provision of translations, photocopying, microfilming and inter-library lending. [Pg.28]
