Periodic INDEX

Popular and scholarly articles can be accessed through periodical indexes that provide citations and abstracts. Abstracts are brief summaries of articles or papers. They are usually compiled and indexed—originally in bound volumes, but increasingly are available online. 

CDs are capable of carrying prodigious amounts of information, over 600 megabytes on a single disk, hi addition to the music and film formats, CD-ROMs bring extensive databases to the desktop computer, and the average user s fingertips. World atlases, encyclopedias, and comprehensive periodical indexes are just a few of the CD-ROM products available. 

The 470 periodicals indexed are in the English lan age and are of a general nature. The entries concerning chemical subjects are relatively small in number. 

The Technology Department of the Detroit Public Library receives about 60% of the periodicals indexed by the Engineering Index and is especially strong in the engineering fields related to the automobile industry. It held in 1956 between 6000 and 8000 books and between 5000 and 6000 volumes of periodicals pertaining to the automobile industry. Also included were over 100,000 volumes of automobile trade literature and catalogs, in addition to over 100,000 photographs of motor vehicles. 

Index. Most specialized subjects have their own indexes the Humanities Index, the Art Index, the Music Index, the Social Sciences Index, the Business Periodicals Index, the Applied Science and Technology Index, and so on.

Indexes and Abstracts. The literature searcher must learn to use the periodical indexes. Chemical Abstracts (33), British Abstracts (32), and the journals that regularly publish abstracts of articles appearing in other journals. Often material needed can be found only in the most recent journal. The Engineering Index (2 2) and the Industrial Arts Index (22) are excellent sources for current literature. The American Dyestuff Reporter 29) the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists 35, The Journal of the Textile Institute (33), the Textile Research Journal 39, and the Textile Technology Digest 4-0, publish abstracts and contain patent literature.

Nonparametric approaches typically extract a set of features from each video frame. The features are then matched to a stored template. The template can be either 2D or 3D. When using nonparametric techniques, the typical procedures consist of motion detection and human tracking in the scene, which enables the construction of a sequence. Then, a periodicity index is computed and the periodicity sequence is segmented into individual cycles for recognition.
