Desizing of Cotton Fabric

Enzymatic methods Many research organizations and scientists are working to improve the environment-friendly processing of cotton fabrics with enzymes. The many enzymes are today available for the removal of Impurities in the cotton fibers. For example, alpha amylase is enzyme used for cotton desizing process, pectlnase for pectin removal in cotton fiber and lipase, and protease for fatty substance removal in the cotton fiber treatments. Typical textile wet processing of cotton materials is shown in Fig. 4.6. [Pg.149]

Desizing of cotton fabric can be accomplished by physical, chemical or combination of physical and chemical mechanism, namely rot steeping, acid steeping, treatment with enzyme and oxidising agents. In desizing, the starches and polymers that are applied which are insoluble, are converted into water soluble com-... [Pg.71]

Amylase enzymes used in the desizing of cotton fabrics are obtained from different sources with different activity levels. There are two kinds of amylases available in sources, namely endoamylase and exoamylases. Endoamylases cleave a-[l-4)-glycosidic bonds present in the inner parts of amylose, whereas exoamylases act on external glucose residues of starch molecules. [Pg.150]

When sodium bromite is used as a desizing agent for cotton fabric by continuous and discontinuous processes, the concentration of bromite should be restricted to ensure that the oxidaiton of cellulose is kept to a negligible proportion. [Pg.345]

It is established that the barrier efficiency of the woven fabrics directly depends on the arrangement of the filaments in the yam and the construction of the woven fabric. Research indicates that a desized, scoured, and bleached plain-weave cotton fabric weighing 130 g/m finished with a natural antimicrobial agent, neem seed, showed 99.5% antibacterial activity against S. aureus (Joshi et al., 2007). It should be mentioned that neem seed is obtained from the neem tree, Azadirachta indica, which... [Pg.101]
