Design Project Procedures

In process design the basic teaching philosophy should be one of giving le student relatively free rein and the complete responsibility for progress id accomplishment. The students may have the option of selecting leir own problem or the instructor may do this. The students should len decide on the method of approach, analyze the facts and situations, an and carry out laboratory and calculation work, select equipment, ake economic studies, and display initiative throughout. [Pg.497]

The role of the instructor in this type of course should be that of a insultant and guide. The course may not necessarily emphasize any jw scientific or engineering principles, but it should present ample oppor-inity to apply that which is already known. The student should be eated as if he already were a technically trained man on the job, as he had been adequately educated and had the essential ability to assume le entire responsibility for his success in a chemical engineering career. [Pg.497]

Projects may be selected in a number of ways, depending on the faeili-es and time available (AIChE Student Contest Problems furnish valu-ile ideas for projects). [Pg.497]

The instructor may select a typical process or give the students the option to do so. The entire class is then organized into research, development, and engineering design departments successively as the project proceeds. [Pg.498]

Each student is given the opportunity to submit several chemical manufacturing processes which he would like to study. Class discussion of each student s process ensues and one or more processes are chosen by the class for individual, small group, or entire class effort. [Pg.498]

In order to amplify the remarks made earlier in this chapter concerning the design-project procedure, it is appropriate at this time to look nore closely at a specific preliminary design. Because of space limitations, only a brief presenta-... [Pg.22]

The "Capital Projects Design Review Procedures" element of process safety management assures that the design, the equipment and the construction are properly reviewed for all new projects. Process safety review procedures should be involved with the project from its inception. One method of illustrating the various phases of a project is shown in Figure 8.1 (Figure 5-1 from CCPS, 1989a). [Pg.350]

The groupware system EVA consists primarily of a shared work space that all users of a chemical design project can access (Fig. 5.44). In this workspace all of the documents created during a project are inserted and displayed in a structured way. As a result, the work area presents the center for the project-internal and primarily asynchronous information exchange. It also gives a structured overview of the relevant information and procedures throughout a development process in chemical engineering. The structure of the work area was derived from the abstraction-decomposition space introduced in Fig. 5.42. [Pg.538]

Therefore it is often necessary to define words within a project context, practically as part of the project procedures, especially when multicultural interfaces are involved. Words which require particular care include those used to define the performance parameters of plant and equipment, such as normal , design , and maximum (we will return to this subject), and those which are involved in the relationship with a supplier or sub-contractor, such as approval . Procure-mentrelated vocabulary definitions are a standard part of general conditions of purchase and contract the project engineer should review such definitions and their adequacy before proceeding with... [Pg.315]

Design outputs should conform to design input requirements, which should be structured so as to be traceable to that purpose. Design output procedures should contain or make reference to acceptance criteria. These procedures are there to ensure that the outputs are adequate enough to evaluate functions of a product, which may include product subsystems, outputs from risk analysis, and final product specifications. It is necessary to specify and enumerate the design output as part of the roles and deliverables in the project plan, and then revise and update it whenever needed. Deliverables of outputs should, at least, include ... [Pg.31]

The Preliminary Design Project team members work with the vendor to assure that the users (in-house personnel s) requirements are met. The receivables from the vendor include schematics, flow diagrams, drawings, specifications for further components, and operating procedures and training manuals. [Pg.261]

The technique can be utilized to investigate almost all aspects of the design, project, or facility, for example, procedure, material, equipment, or external issues like power supply failure, or plant environmental issues. [Pg.189]
