Technical requirements Sound engineering practice, essential requirements tarticle 3t The directive includes a particular technical requirement with respect to equipment which presents only a minor pressure hazard. For such equipment the essential requirements and the certification procedures are not applicable. Instead the so-called sound engineering practice of one of the Member States must be applied. That practice must ensure that design and manufacture takes into account all relevant factors influencing safety during the intended lifetime. The equipment must be accompanied with adequate instruetions for use and must bear the identification of the manufacturer. The CE-marking shall not be applied for such equipment. 

The choice of a turboexpander load may be influenced by the desire to optimize refrigeration. In other words, a dynamometer load may be chosen over a generator load due to speed considerations. Additionally, there are other constraints imposed on optimal design. Factors such as impeller peripheral velocity (tip speed), bearing design, axial load balance, material selection, and manufacturing methods (which have greatly improved in the recent decades) all have an influence. 

Temperature Dry wire-pipe ESPs can operate at very high temperatures, up to 700°C (1300°F). Operating gas temperature and chemical composition of the dust are key factors influencing dust resistivity and must be carefully considered in the design of an ESP. 

The main factors in the design of an adsorption system are the (1) Carbon consumption - The amount of earbon required to treat the liquid or gas, normally expressed per unit of the fluid treated and (2) Contact time - For a fixed flow rate, the contact time is directly proportional to the volume of carbon and is the main factor influencing the size of the adsorption system and capital cost. 

Another factor influencing contaminant and heat transfer from dirty to clean zones against the stable airflow is a turbulent exchange between these zones. This process should be considered in the design of displacement or natural ventilation systems and evaluation of the emission rate of contaminants from the encapsulated process equipment (Fig. 7.111a). 

Cost-effective control of dust problems arising from bulk materials handling requires an initial examination of the overall handling operations. Factors influencing dust generation and dispersion must be understood in order to achieve a proper design.
