Dermatological effects

Few laboratory animal data are available that describe the dermal affects related to inhalation, oral, or dermal exposure to 1,4-dichlorobenzene. Fischer 344 rats and B6C3Fi mice exposed to concentrations up to 1,500 mg/kg/day and 1,800 mg/kg/day, respectively, for 13 weeks produced no dermal effects (NTP 1987). In rats exposed to 1,4-dichlorobenzene at 150-600 mg/kg/day and in mice exposed to 300 and 600 mg/kg/day in oil for 2 years no dermatological effects were produced. 

Dermatologic effects Promptly discontinue mefenamic acid if rash occurs. A combination of dermatologic and allergic signs and symptoms suggestive of serum sickness occasionally have occurred in conjunction with the use of piroxicam. Concomitant therapy Do not use naproxen sodium and naproxen concomitantly both drugs circulate as naproxen anion. 

Dermatologic effects Discontinue these drugs if a skin rash appears. If the rash is exfoliative, purpuric, or bullous, do not resume use. 

Naproxen (Naprosyn) also has pharmacological properties and clinical uses similar to those of ibuprofen. It exhibits approximately equal selectivity for COX-1 and COX-2 and is better tolerated than certain NSAIDs, such as indomethacin. Adverse reactions related to the GI tract occur in about 14% of all patients, and severe GI bleeding has been reported. CNS complaints (headache, dizziness, drowsiness), dermatological effects (pruritus, skin eruptions, echinoses), tinnitus, edema, and dyspnea also occur. 

Toxic reactions may include blood dyscrasias (such as aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, leukocytosis, and eosinophilia), cardiovascular disturbances (such as CHF, hypotension or hypertension, thrombophlebitis and arrhythmias), and dermatologic effects (such as rash, urticaria, pruritus, and photosensitivity),...

The severe dermatologic effects of chlorinated dibenzodioxins were recognized as early as 1899 By the 1950s a rash of runaway reactions associated with 2,4,5-T production had caused serious outbreaks of chloracne among German workers and in the United States as well (refs. 121b and 133).

The combination of pyrazinamide plus levofloxacin is first-line treatment for multidrug-resistant latent tuberculosis. In 17 Canadian patients there were important adverse reactions affecting the musculoskeletal and central nervous systems hyperuricemia, gastrointestinal effects, and dermatological effects were also common (3). This combination may be used with careful monitoring for adverse effects.
