Dermatan sulfate-protein

Although it has long been know n that demiatan sulfate is covalently linked to protein in the tissues, the actual isolation of the protein polysaccharide has only recently been accomplished (Toole and fjowthcr, 1965, 1966, 1968). The dermatan sulfate-protein has a rather high protein content, approximately 50%, and is smaller than most of the chondroitin sulfate-protein complexes, wdth a molecular weight of approximately 100,000-200,000. [Pg.364]

CS-PG, chondroitin sulfate-proteoglycan these are similar to the dermatan sulfate PGs (DS-PGs) of cartilage ffable 48-11). SPARC, secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine. [Pg.548]

The core proteins of DS-PG I and DS-PG II are homologous to those of CS-PG I and CS-PG II found In bone (Table 48-9). A possible explanation Is that osteoblasts lack the epimerase required to convert glucuronic acid to Iduronic acid, the latter of which Is found In dermatan sulfate. [Pg.551]

Calabrese, G. C., Alberto, M. F., Tubio, R., Marani, M. M., Fernandez de Recondo, M. E., Lazzari, M., and Recondo, E. F. (2004). A small fraction of dermatan sulfate with significantly increased anticoagulant activity was selected by interaction with the first complement protein. Thromb. Res. 113, 243-250. [Pg.25]

The organic substances of the biocrystalline layer include primarily protein-polysaccharide complexes while the contents of water and lipids are low376. Polysaccharides composed of glucosamine, galactosamine, mannose and fucose have been detected. Also chondroitin-sulfate-A and dermatan sulfate have been found368. ... [Pg.85]

Heparin cofactor II is a second plasma SERPIN which has resemblance to antithrombin in that it is activatable by glycosaminoglycan binding. This protein has also been called antithrombin BM, dermatan sulfate cofactor, and human leuserpin 2 (88). The existence of this second inhibitor and heparin cofactor was first shown by Briginshaw in 1974 (89). Whereas antithrombin is observed to have progressive antithrombin activity and to also inhibit factor Xa, the second... [Pg.6]

The hyaluronan content of skin has been estimated to be between 0.03% and 0.09%, and dermatan sulfate represents 30 to 40% of dermal proteoglycans. The GAG content is reported to decrease with respect to the amount of protein with increased age, and a recent report suggests that there is a decrease in the proportion of versican and an increase in decorin with increased age, which is associated with the appearance of a small PG that may be a catabolic fragment of decorin. [Pg.93]

The interaction of partially purified, commercial preparations of P. vulgaris with a large number of serum glycoproteins was studied by Morse.105 The lectin precipitated a2-macroglobulin, /3-lipoproteins, and immunoglobulin M. Preparations ofarglycoprotein, orosomucoid, and several immunoglobulin A myeloma proteins also reacted.105 Chon-droitin 4-sulfate, dermatan sulfate, and heparin also precipitated a partially purified preparation of red kidney-bean the precipitation reaction was completely inhibited by 0.5 M sodium chloride solution.3663... [Pg.301]
