Delivery performance monitoring

Your planning and delivery procedures need to record estimated and actual delivery dates and the data collected and analyzed through a delivery performance monitoring procedure. When targets are not met you should investigate the cause under the corrective action procedures and formulate corrective action plans. Where the cause is found to be a failure of the customer to supply some vital information or equipment, it would be prudent not to wait for the periodic analysis but to react promptly. 

The standard requires the supplier to implement a system to monitor the delivery performance of subcontractors with corrective actions taken as appropriate, including tracking incidents of premium freight. 

Once service delivery has begun, the control process goes into action. A goal is to make the performance monitoring, evaluation, and feedback activities routine. Intensive monitoring of the quality of initial service encounters provides important feedback on problems that need to be addressed. 

In today s environment many MRP systems are only one module in a larger system such as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The ERP system allows the MRP data to be combined with other company data so that the firm can project its cash flow, monitor its inventory and delivery performance, etc. ERP systems will be discussed in Chapter 16. 

If the consolidation center works as a trading company, it needs to monitor the suppliers delivery performance in terms of shortage history, on-time delivery, lead-time, flexibility with respect to volume changes, and so forth. 

Disruptions to the supply chain can occur via any of the suppliers, via the shipper, or internal to PPFs operations. But it is the poor quality and poor on-time delivery performance that has PPI worried. It fears the loss of several key customers if these issues cannot be resolved soon. What would you suggest What options are available Now if s your turn to get creative and search for ideas. We will be revisiting PPI later in the book to monitor its progress and changes. For now, let us see what tools are available to the SCM user to determine whether any would apply to PPI. Later we will learn that there are a lot of Lean tools that will also help PPI improve its processes. 

Because of its success, SPC has found application in other industries, including service industries, transportation industries, and delivery services, and can even be found in fast-food and baggage handling. For example, on-time delivery performance can be monitored on an SPC chart.

Williams et al. used a high performance liquid chromatographic assay method for dipyridamole monitoring in plasma [71]. The HPLC system uses a Waters model 6000 A solvent delivery pump equipped with a U6K injector, a pBondapak C 9 column (30 cm x 39 mm 10 pm), and a Model 440 absorbance detector. The signal from the detector was quantified using a Shimadzu data processor and an Omni-Scribe recorder. A mobile phase flow rate of 1.5 mL/min was produced by a pressure of approximately 102 atm (1500 p.s.i.). The mobile phase was 50 50 mixture of acetonitrile and 0.01 M sodium phosphate in water (adjusted to pH 7). The absorbance reading of dipyridamole in methanol was made at 280 nm. 

A specially modified sampler for Desaga expands the TLC-Applicator AS 30 into a fully automatic application system. The applicator control of the autosampler is performed by a serial interface, and it monitors the selection of sample containers, the delivery of the necessary amount of sample, and the rinsing processes. A second serial interface allows the application parameters to be documented using a printer or laboratory computer system.
