Degradation accelerated

Any relation between degradation, acceleration and time is only likely to be valid for a limited range of acceleration because the degradation mechanism may change with the level of the agent. The best results will be obtained with the lowest acceleration levels but at the cost of longer test times. [Pg.61]

The primary effect of any ionizing radiation is based on its ability to excite and ionize molecules, and this leads to the formation of free radicals, which fhen initiate reactions such as polymerization and cross-linking or degradation. Accelerated electron beams have energy sufficient to affect the electrons in the atom shell, but not its nucleus, and can therefore only initiate chemical reactions. Typically, the reactions initiated by electron beam are extremely fast and are completed in fractions of a second. [Pg.14]

Like pigments, the effect of other contaminants such as dust and smog particles varies depending on their chemical nature (30,31). In some cases photooxidation can be induced and the rate of degradation accelerated, in other cases the products act as uv absorbers. [Pg.184]

What happens after depletion of the triacylglycerol stores The only source of fuel that remains is proteins. Protein degradation accelerates, and death inevitably results from a loss of heart, liver, or kidney function. [Pg.1266]

The interaction between metals and metallic compounds and polymers is extremely complex, leading either to polymer degradation (accelerators or photosensitizers) or to polymer stabilization (stabilizers, retarders, metal deactivators). [Pg.544]
