The definition of a product candidate and the description of essential commercial aspects of this product and its development process should be summarized in a product profile. The product profile describes essential product qualities such as the indication, form of presentation, intended application and use pattern, efficacy, safety and other critical aspects, e.g. patent restrictions and cost limitations for the compound or for the formulated product. The expected date of product launch and sales expectations as well as the expected development cost are important elements of the product profile. Table 2 summarizes and explains the aspects which should be covered by a product profile. 

The name of the supplier and the type or grade of the starting material. The place and date of production, batch number or another equivalent identification number that will unequivocally identify the starting material. In the specific case of starting materials for food contact plastics, documentation of compliance with details of the legislation with which they are complying.

Prior to leaving the manufacturing plant, all lead-add batteries should be labelled (Fig. 16.3) in accordance with prevailing national and international [8] regulations and with the international recycling symbol ISO 7000 1135, better known as the Moebius loop. Furthermore, there should be instructions for the recycling of the battery or a point of contact clearly displayed when it is at the end of its useful life. Each label should state, lead-acid battery , Pb or the words LEAD , RETURN and RECYCLE . If possible, the label should also have a bar code which contains information about the place of manufacture, the date of production, the battery type, and its components. 

In the event that the holding time for an intermediate has not been qualified by appropriate stability evaluations, the expiration date assigned to the related finished drug product batch should be computed from the quality control release date of the intermediate if this date does not exceed 30 days from the date of production of the intermediate. Bottled waters are alternatives to drinking water from the tap. The term bottled water is a generic term that describes all water sold in containers. The consumption of bottled water has risen phenomenally over the past years and the bottled water industry has grown to accommodate the demand [47]. Bottled waters are classified as a food material. They are monitored by the national food agencies and some international institutions. Many countries require the manufacturer to indicate the source of the water and the date of production on the label. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) also inspects its members annually to check for compliance to the IBWA standards. In the United States, bottled waters are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state governments. 

Markings on plastics may provide information about their country of manufacture, the production company (via a trademarks), design and whether the type of plastic present can be recycled or is suitable for use in contact with food (Figures 5.2 and 5.3). If a date is present in association with a company s name, it refers to the establishment of the company and not the date of production of the object. In the make-to-order factory, one of the most important production objectives is to meet the due dates of production orders. Since the processing time of production process is uncertain probabilistically, the completion time of each production order is also uncertain. It is difficult to evaluate directly whether the due dates are met. A separate record shall be made for any product returned by the customers. Reasons such as not meeting certain specifications (less purity, the presence of insoluble matter, high moisture, material not free-flowing type, etc.) shall be clear so that such matters can be suitably addressed in fumre consignments. It is apparent that commercial products are variable. It is therefore unfortunate that these authors do not provide the batch number or date of production of the materials under test. 

The evaluation of finished flavors is quite similar to that used in the evaluation of incoming ingredients. Samples come to the QA laboratory directly from the compounder in production. Along with each sample is a form with the name and number of the flavor, the amount produced, date of production, compounder s name, and customer s name. (Today this may be replaced by a bar code that references this data in a central database.) This information allows QA to retrieve information on that particular flavor.
