Along with this expansion in instrumentation came the development of new data acquisition strategies to improve instrument performance and tailor data acquisition for more precise measurements of hyperfine couplings. Sophisticated approaches to data analysis, spectral simulation and improved probe designs were developed. These improvements were driven by an even greater expansion in applications. A variety of tools are available for the detection and characterization of the metabolites. Unless advanced data-acquisition strategies (Ch. 10.4.4) are applied, at least two LC-MS analyses are required. The first injection is performed in full-spectrum LC-MS mode, preferable using an MS system with improved full-spectrum sensitivity, such as (linear) ion trap and time-of-flight (TOP) instruments. The analysis of a blank extract next to real samples greatly facilitates peak detection and avoids further work on endogenous peaks. The data are processed to find the relevant /w/z-values of potential metabolites. These /w/z-values are used as precursor ion m/z in a subsequent (time-scheduled) product-ion LC-MS-MS analysis. Again, instruments with improved full-spectrum sensitivity, such as ion-traps, quadrapole-linear ion trap hybrids (Q-LIT), or quadrapole-TOF hybrids, are favourable. 

Furthermore it is recommended that NMR newcomers start with the central volume Processing Strategies and complete their education in modern NMR spectroscopy according to their special needs by working through the appropriate volumes, Data Acquisition, Modern Data Analysis and Intelligent Data Management. 

This third strategy aims at designing HT data acquisition procedure in such a way that more advanced information is collected, such as mechanistic and kinetic insights, as compared with the limited information obtained with the previous strategies. This newly acquired knowledge can be used in turn for further combinatorial strategies, as above described (ES or DoE) [12]. 

As mentioned in Section 10.2.3.1, explaining the general outlines of the search strategies, HT data acquisition may also be used to obtain more advanced fundamental information, such as mechanistic and kinetic insights, than the somewhat limited information found with the previously described combinatorial strategies... 

Economic Incentives for Automation Projects Industrial applications of advanced process control strategies such as MPC are motivated by the need for improvements regarding safety, product quality, environmental standards, and economic operation of the process.
