Semm is expensive, the 1992 price was 400/L, and supply depends on cattie supply. Use of this semm also poses significant difficulties in vahdating processes for absence of viral contamination. Hence, a goal in cell culture technology is to develop semm-free media for cell culture. Much work has gone into developing semm-free media and a sizable portion of cell culture research is devoted to this project. A detailed discussion of semm-free media development is available (5).

An inability to replicate telomeres has been linked to cell aging and death. Many somatic cells do not express telomerase when placed in culture they survive a fixed number of population doublings, enter senescence, and then die. Analysis has shown significant telomere shortening in those cells. In contrast, stem cells do express telomerase and appear to have an infinite lifetime in culture. Research is underway to understand the role of telomeres in cell aging, growth, and cancer.

The goals, priorities and activities are manifest in job characteristios -those features of organisational life and work that direcdy affect its members. Therefore, one line of enquiry within safety culture research is how it is affected by job characteristics. We presented evidence to suggest that such a relationship exists within British community pharmacies. In basic terms, safely climate varies according to the levels of psychological and physical demands and the personal and material resources available to meet these demands. 

Work began on the EUROCONTROL safety culture questionnaire in the early 2000s with a review of the safety culture literature. The review identified constracts of potential importance for measurement in ATM. The review focused on safety culture research from 2001-05 (and the review by Guldenmund 2000).
