Some examples are material requirements, testing requirements, installation or placement instructions, lists of materials or equipment, submittal and schedule requirements, safety and environmental protection needs, permits to be obtained, and coordination with other contractors. In North America, specifications often follow the format of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
