During the next 24 hours, agitation, subsequent drowsy consciousness developed. He was intubated and seizures occurred with a generahzed tonic-clonic... 

The organic entrepreneur is more awake and realizes that communication carries with it an enormous responsibility— that responsibility is love. As we become aware of the many layers that exist within communication, we realize that it contains two essential qualities emotion and expression. To communicate well, we must consciously develop the abilities to listen, express, question, and be patient with love. 

In order to truly operate globally, there must at least be an ability to appreciate and manage diversity. Leadership would require development beyond this point, and it is really an issue of awareness and consciousness development. 

Such a paradox requires, of course, a further detailed insight into the issue in order to understand which tools are best suited to optimise operational and cost features. In the development of new products, optimization of the fermentation medium for titer only often ignores the consequences of the medium properties on subsequent downstream processing steps such as filtration and chromatography. It is imperative, therefore, that there be effective communication and understanding between workers on the upstream and downstream phases of the produc t development if rational trade-offs are to be made to ensure overall optimahty of the process. One example is to make the conscious decision, in collaboration with those responsible for the downstream operations, whether to produce a protein in an unfolded form or in its native folded form the purification of the aggregated unfolded proteins is simpler than that of the native protein, but the refolding process itself to obtain the product in its final form may lack scalabihty. 

Analysts must recognize that the end use as well as the uncertainty determines the value of measurements. While the operators may pay the most attention to one set of measurements in making their decisions, another set may be the proper focus for model development and parameter estimation. The predilec tion is to focus on those measurements that the operators Believe in or that the designers/con-trollers originally believed in. The purpose of these 3 volumes is to present techniques of process design and to interpret the results into mechanical equipment details. There is no attempt to present theoretical developments of the design equations. The equations recommended have practically all been used in actual plant equipment design, and are considered to be the most reasonable available to the author, and still capable of being handled by both the inexperienced as well as the experienced engineer. Phencyclidine (l-[l-phenylcyclohexyl] piperidine, PCP) was originally developed as an intravenous anesthetic in the 1950s. However, it was soon withdrawn from human use because it produced unpleasant hallucinations, agitation, and delirium. The product was later used in veterinary medicine. Ketamine, a chemically closely related substance, was developed to replace PCP and is stiU in use as a dissociative anesthetic in children. Ketamine is less potent than PCP, and its effects are of shorter duration. However, it may also cause hallucinations (see the section on ketamine in Chapter 7, Club Drugs ). Much of the ketamine sold on the street (special K, cat Valium) has been diverted from veterinarians offices. 

The chemists sub-microscopic level concerns the world of atoms and their derivatives ions and molecules. This is an unobservable world, accessible only by imagination. Imagination is such a key component of advances in chemistry at the research level, as well as of rich student understandings that its significance cannot be underestimated, and we would do well to raise our students consciousness of it in order that they might try to develop their visualisation abilities. 

Methods of detection, metabolism, and pathophysiology of the brevetoxins, PbTx-2 and PbTx-3, are summarized. Infrared spectroscopy and innovative chromatographic techniques were examined as methods for detection and structural analysis. Toxicokinetic and metabolic studies for in vivo and in vitro systems demonstrated hepatic metabolism and biliary excretion. An in vivo model of brevetoxin intoxication was developed in conscious tethered rats. Intravenous administration of toxin resulted in a precipitous decrease in body temperature and respiratory rate, as well as signs suggesting central nervous system involvement. A polyclonal antiserum against the brevetoxin polyether backbone was prepared a radioimmunoassay was developed with a sub-nanogram detection limit. This antiserum, when administered prophylactically, protected rats against the toxic effects of brevetoxin.
