Confirmed Test

One standard test used to determine the presence of the coliform group is called the multiple-tube fermentation technique (sometimes called the presumptive test). If this test indicates the presence of these bacteria, then a confirmed test must be done. If only negative colonies or no colonies develop during this test, it is considered negative otherwise, a completed test must be undertaken. Positive results obtained in the completed test are evidence for the presence of coliform bacteria. Testing methods have been given by the APHA, and the detailed procedures contained therein should be consulted (20). [Pg.233]

Plate-and-Frame Tests These tests should be conducted if the use of a filter press in the plant is anticipated at least a few confirming tests are advisable after preliminaiy leaf tests, unless the sluriy is veiy rapidly filtering. A laboratory-size filter press consisting of two plates and a single frame may be used. It will permit the observation of solids-settling, cake-pacldug, and washing behavior, which may be quite different for a frame than for a leaf. [Pg.1706]

In cases of unclear manufacturing records (documents, etc.), a confirmation test using western blotting (for egg or milk) or PCR (for wheat, buckwheat or peanut) should be performed. [Pg.163]

Most recently, development testwork was performed on a large perovskite deposit (Powderhom) located in the USA. An effective beneficiation process was developed, where a concentrate assaying >50% Ti02 was achieved in the pilot plant confirmation tests [7]. During this development testwork, a number of different collectors were examined at different pH values. Figure 25.5 shows the effect of the different collectors on perovsikte flotation. The most effective collector was phosphoric acid ester modified with either fatty alcohol sulphate or petroleum sulphonate. [Pg.182]

Ammonia derivative formation The derivatization is carried out using a 10% ammonia solution mixed with the column effluent (64). The main advantages are an increase in sensitivity (1.7 times the signal of the underivatized ochratoxin A), and the availability of a confirmation test for ochratoxin A, as a consequence of this change of sensitivity. A second HPLC pump, similar to that described in Fig. 2 for aflatoxins, and a reaction coil of 10 cm are necessary. Conditions are as follows 0.5 ml/min as flow rate, room temperature, excitation wavelength of 370 nm, and emission wavelength... [Pg.508]

If a library compound shows activity, the compound will need to be resynthesized for confirmation testing. If the library was prepared through solution-phase chemistry, hits can be synthesized by scaling up the original procedure. Reactions do not always give the same yield when performed on a larger scale, but modifications will likely be minor. In contrast, a solid-phase synthesis rarely translates well to the solution phase. Resynthesis of hits may require the entire route to be redesigned from scratch. [Pg.241]

In some cases, even before a weed is confirmed in laboratory tests to be resistant to an herbicide, the farmer has already changed his weed control program and the resistant weed may no longer be easy to find. There have been also cases where the resistant weed was identified as one species, but was later confirmed by a taxonomist as another. In those cases where no qualified weed scientist was available to conduct confirmation tests, the resistant biotypes are not listed as resistant, even though they may no longer be controlled with the once effective herbicide. [Pg.123]

TTEs and Sis can be conducted with or without identification of the specific toxicant(s), but will be more effective if a specific substance can be targeted for treatment. In the case that the TTE or SI approach is selected, confirmation testing will still be required to ensure that the method selected consistently removes toxicity. [Pg.170]

The claimed distribution of mono-, di-, and trilithium compounds in DiLi-3 is 90 10 trace (86). However, other workers (87) have found it to be 22 64 13 by GC/MS analysis erratic results for this initiator have also been observed by other investigators (88). DiLi-4 is alleged to be more stable in storage than the other DiLi compounds, but confirming tests by independent laboratories are lacking. [Pg.84]

The identification of drugs of abuse represents the most prominent use of chemistry in forensics (Berry 1985 Hasan et al. 2008). Activities were developed that focused on the techniques used by forensic chemists to identify illicit drugs, including both presumptive and confirmative tests. These activities were applied to laboratory chemicals that could be purchased without a drug license. The first activity involved... [Pg.178]

Biotinidase activity in newborn screening and in confirmational testing is usually determined by using the artificial substrate biotinyl-/>-aminobenzoate in the colorimetric assay. What are the ramifications of not using the natural substrate biocytin to... [Pg.142]

Confirmation test (with assay-ready plates)... [Pg.195]

Because of a sensitivity comparable to that obtainable from nonisotopic immunoassays, as well as low running costs and possibility of automation, Wernly and Thormann proposed MEKC for confirmation testing, following immunometric screenings. [Pg.169]

Wernly P, Thormann W (1992a) Confirmation testing of ll-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocan-nabinol-9-carboxylic acid in urine with micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography. J Chromatogr 608 251-256. [Pg.205]

The experimental programs for the above three confirmation tests were made on the basis of the following concepts ... [Pg.55]

Np (19). Since the micellar weight determinations in this series of experiments were limited to the range of r = 0.05 to r = 0.5, which was also the range of r-values within which the maximum p(n) happened, the selected three values of surfactant ratios for the confirmation tests were considered proper and sufficient. [Pg.55]
