Conferences and Meetings

They held conferences and meetings to increase awareness on the part of key policy-makers from ministries of environment and industry, environmental management agencies, and financial institutions, in the hope that they will support the adoption of appropriate institutional policies. 

Also, there were many outside conferences and meetings. I traveled to Virginia, South Carolina, Illinois, Texas, Utah, Alabama, New York and New Hampshire, hr California, which I sorely missed, I stayed briefly in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. The trip to San Diego involved a particularly interesting research symposium on the future of warfare.

CONFSCI (Conference Papers Index) is a bibliographic database of international research papers and findings presented at scientific and technical conferences and meetings throughout the world. It is produced by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts and covers 1973 to date. 

References to work presented at conferences and meetings must be treated on a case-by-case basis. At least three types of citations are possible ... 

Consistent with the USP policy of emphasis on public participation in standards setting, open conferences and meetings are held to allow interactive examination of selected topics. Twenty-five of these conferences were held between 1980 and 1999, with an average attendance of approximately 150. Roundtable format is used to get maximum participation policy initiatives as well as proposed standards revisions on the table. 

Two organizations account for harmonization of new and revised standards the Pharmacopeial Discussion Group (PDG) and the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH). Primary impact is attributed in this cycle again to the PDG consisting of the USP with the Japanese and European pharmacopeias. Joint open conferences held on an international basis were crucial to any progress here because these ensured direct contact among experts from the three pharmacopeias (see Open Conferences and Meetings, earlier).

The public concept of the nuclear industry is one of secrecy. In fact, the UK programme is typical of the range of nuclear conferences and meetings in most western countries. Nuclear experts publish enormous quantities of technical material. 

The British Occupational Hygiene Society was founded in 1953 to provide a forum in which specialist experience from many different but related fields could be exchanged and made available to the growing number of occupational hygienists at both national and international level, and to encourage discussion with other managerial and technical professions. The Society holds frequent conferences and meetings.

To establish contacts with foreign researchers, also conferences and meetings were very helpful. Jeanne SteUman was one of the few occupational health researchers in this period to be interested in the idea that the office could be hazardous to workers health.
