Conditional power

Today belts are used in automobiles to drive aux-iliaiy devices such as air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, the alternator, and the cooling fluid pump. Belts also can be found in household appliances such as vacuum sweepers, on lathes in machine shops, or inside copying machines. [Pg.789]

Indicator lights, fixed pattern, and segmented displays are applications which have been suggested for OLED deployment. Manufacturers of automobile components have shown interest in OLED indicators for the dashboard, where the primary considerations are those of cost, form factor, brightness, and stability over a wide range of ambient conditions. Power consumption is not particularly critical. The possibility of molding a thin light into a curved dashboard is attractive. [Pg.551]

The number of rotor revolutions per mix cycle relates directly to unit work input and to temperature rise. This variable can be employed when checking between mixed batches for changes in feeding operations, materials and mixer conditions. Power/work input measures the energy consumed by the mixer. A greater compensation for variations in feed stocks and mixer temperatures is provided by power control. [Pg.192]

Over limited ranges of conditions, power law rate equations often are as adequate as those found by detailed chemical or L-H mechanisms. [Pg.651]

This method of calculating the conditional power assumes that the observed difference between the treatments at the interim stage is the true difference, termed the conditional power under the current trend. It is also possible to calculate conditional power under other assumptions, for example, that the true treatment difference in the remaining part of the trial following the interim analysis is equal to d. These calculations under different assumptions about how the future data should behave will provide a broad basis on which to make judgements about terminating the trial for futility. [Pg.216]

The proposed sample size was 600 patients and two interims were planned after 200 and 400 patients (completing 3 months follow-up) using the O Brien and Fleming scheme with adjusted two-sided significance levels of 0.00052, 0.014 and 0.045. A futility rule was also introduced, based on conditional power (under the current trend) being below 30 per cent for the trial to be stopped. [Pg.223]

The trial was, in fact, stopped at the interim analysis due to futility the conditional power, was well below 30 per cent. In addition, even though the formal boundary for safety was not crossed, the trend was in the direction of excess deaths in the ancrod group. [Pg.224]

It was indicated numerous times that the SHG intensity is dependent on both the magnitude of x<2) tensor elements as well as the phase relationships between fundamental and harmonic fields in the crystal. Under certain circumstances, it is possible to achieve phase matched propagation of the fundamental and harmonic beams. Under these conditions, power is continually transferred from the fundamental to harmonic beam over a path length, which is only limited by the ability... [Pg.50]

Initial processing experiments showed however, that under typical O2 RIE conditions (power 0.1 to 0.2 W/cm self-bias — —250 to —350 V, pressure — 5 to 20 mTorr O2), these resists are not very resistant, particularly under prolonged etching. Effective pattern transfer may require etch times of 15 to 30 min (11,12). which are sufficient to cause extensive degradation of the resist. Such behavior is reminiscent of poly (olefin sulfone)s such as the well-known PBS e-beam resist, which is etched 5-7 times faster than polystyrene in an oxygen plasma (5). [Pg.335]

The physical properties of a paste are difficult to define because a combination of yield stress, shear dependence, time dependence, and even elasticity may be present. Further, many process applications involve the formation or modification of the physical properties. To relate accurately specific material properties to mixing characteristics or power requirements can be extremely difficult. Actual observation and measurement in small-scale equipment or comparison with similar existing processes may be the only practical way of predicting successful operating conditions. Power measurements in small-scale equipment are often essential to predict large-scale conditions and may form the basis for operating production equipment. [Pg.1973]

For benzaldehyde there was always some 30% yield of unidentified products, whether the reaction was sonicated or not. These side products are thought to be hydroquinoid dimers. p-Methyl benzaldehyde, which also shows the substantial sonoelectrochemical switch to the hydrodimer, has a blocked para-position and is less affected by side reactions (results are summed up in Table 7). Similar effects were obtained by ultrasonic irradiation from a horn probe (20 kHz), and by employing a range of different silent and sonicated conditions (powers, sources, cell geometries) and comparing product ratios and limiting current densities from... [Pg.263]

Under turbulent flow conditions, power dissipation is the controlling factor for mass transfer and phase dispersion. The power drawn by a single impeller in a liquid-gas system is typically lower than that drawn by the same impeller in liquid alone. The presence of the gas reduces the average density of the mixture, and the gas flow regime (e.g., flooding) may cause the impeller blades to be locally surrounded by a higher... [Pg.1136]

The coatings which were obtained by use of our parallel-plate coater had the desired thickness (20 pm), chemical composition (CFi 3), anddensity (1.85 g/cm ) however, the surface smoofhness did not meet specifications for our application. The process conditions (power, pressure, and flow rate) were then adjusted to optimize the coating smoothness. Figure 4 shows the best surface finish produced by adjustment of the process... [Pg.320]

Measurements in a higher pressure range (6—55 mbar) have been performed in our laboratories16). A tubular flow reactor surrounded by a calorimetric water jacket was operated at 35 MHz, power densities of 4—40 W cm-3 and gas flow rates up to 0.05 mol s-1. Values of the estimated gas temperatures plotted against power density have been reported in Fig. 17 for various conditions. Power densities are higher than those utilized in Ref.14) quoted above and one appreciates that values of Tg are all below T = 2300 K. [Pg.76]
