Conclusions — Lessons Learned

Many organizations place huge bets on technology and other supply chain projects with little understanding of the payoff and the risks. The software supply is abundant and vendors constantly produce new products. The supply chain manager is on his or her own in evaluating a solution in the form of software or technique in terms of its fit with company needs. [Pg.302]

In conclusion, the lesson learned from the research carried out to date on the subject of polycarbosilanes is that the general rule that linear, noncrosslinked polymers are not suitable preceramic polymers applies here as well. Crosslinked network-type polymers are needed. Such structures can be generated in more than one way, but in the case of the polycarbosilanes they have, to date, been obtained mainly by thermolytic routes thermal treatment (with or without other chemical additives) in the case of the Yajima polycarbosilanes and the thermolysis of tetramethylsilane in the case of the Bayer process-derived polycarbosilane. [Pg.34]

Part of the purpose of the case studies was to gain experience that would guide future dam break analyses in Hawaii. Some of the lessons learned during the case studies are therefore listed below. These conclusions are based on the two sites examined but cannot automatically be assumed to hold for all other sites. [Pg.201]

At the end of this meeting, a formal critique should be considered to consolidate lessons learned for future meetings. The critique should consider what went well and what changes could he made to improve future meetings. It would also be appropriate at the conclusion of the session to thank the participants for their contributions, to restate the purpose of the meeting, and to recap how and whether it was achieved. [Pg.199]

In Chapter 9 a discussion is presented of the lessons learned so far, followed by conclusions regarding the status-quo of near miss reporting. This then leads to a number of suggestions for fruitful topics and applications in the near future. [Pg.5]

The most likely cause of a release of agent or other regulated substances that might pose a threat to public health would be an explosion or rupture of a pipe or vessel. Very small releases of agent, which posed no public health risk, occurred at JAC ADS and Tooele during maintenance operations. Wih the incorporation of lessons learned, as well as a QRA, the likelihood of such occurrences at the conclusion of the design process should be extremely small. [Pg.84]

If the Oil and Gas Production facilities are to be included in the standard, a paper Lessons Learned From Inspection of 25,000 Upstream Oil and Gas Wells and Associated Plants (Schubert, 2011) provides useful background. Some of the conclusions of that report are as follows. [Pg.97]

Such are the results and lessons of 1997. As to general results and lessons learned, they are rather trivial. The main conclusion we arrived at is that it is necessary to carry out measures preventing accidents. Analyzing the incidents of 1997, we can see that the preventive measures prove to be more economic than the elimination of accident consequences. We must always remember the lessons of Chernobyl, and these lessons show that in Russia today the annual sum of social security payments to those who participated in the elimination of consequences from the Chernobyl accident and to the population affected by this accident is six trillion roubles (in old prices), i.e., 1 billion. So we spend annually 1 billion for social compensation. Thus, the prevention of accidents is a routine principle, which we must observe in Russia today. [Pg.7]

Has the incident reflex been established as an empirical fact in the domain of physical safety Publications that demonstrate the incident reflex mainly examine Anglo-American political systems." Political, social and cultural differences (which may also lead to any threats to or violations of physical safety being appreciated differently) mean that their conclusions may not be entirely relevant to the Dutch situation. Publications by Dutch researchers on the presumed incident reflex are too anecdotal and essayistic in nature, in our view. Although the Netherlands has a sound tradition of crisis research, with Dutch scholars such as Uri Rosenthal, Mark Bovens, Paul t Hart and Arjen Boin playing an authoritative role, social scientists in the Netherlands have conducted little research on the political and administrative follow-up to incidents. Even major incidents - the catastrophic floods that struck the Netherlands in 1952, the Bijlmer Aviation Disaster in 1992, and the Enschede Fireworks Disaster in 20 o o - have not been studied in that particular way. Crisis research has focused instead on crisis management, on lessons learned in crises and on political accountability. [Pg.21]

Lessons Learned A formal, documented account or report of both the positive and negative aspects of operational or task experience which is compiled after the conclusion of the task. Used generally to highlight those actions which should or should not be allowed to occur during any subsequent performance of like or similar tasks. [Pg.212]

It will take years for researchers to fully tally the cost of these two hurricanes, but events thus far are consistent with the conclusions and recommendations of this report regarding the robustness of the chemical supply chain and the importance of emergency preparedness and response. Lessons learned from these hurricanes and the responses to them provide an opportunity to better understand the resilience of the chemical infrastructure and determine potential opportunities for improvement. [Pg.148]

Chapter 2 of this paper gives a short overview on the MCDET method. Information on the fire scenario including the scenario-specific fire model and the fire fighting procedures investigated can be found in chapter 3. The steps of the analysis and a selection of results are described in chapter 4. Conclusions and lessons learned from the analysis are presented in chapter 5. [Pg.768]

The understanding of the human genome is exciting, in that the molecules that are responsible for these various tribological mechanisms may finally be conclusively identified, meaning that they can be scrutinised in isolation and lessons learned that could provide us with useful aqueous lubrication technology for applications outside the medical field. [Pg.885]

Now THAT you ve donc some planning, you re warmed up and ready to run. The lessons in this section will show you how to draft a successful essay, from introduction to conclusion. You ll learn how to support your ideas with evidence and details, and how to make arguments that are more convincing. [Pg.69]

In conclusion, the lesson to be learned from this research is an essential one. The material must dictate the sequence of events—what, where, when, and how. The protocol reported herein was developed as a beginning to classify colorants in archaeological textiles found North America. The sequence of methods was designed to gain a maximum of data from the textile while keeping the destruction of the artifact at a minimum. [Pg.39]

The effect on your study of the effect of stress on quality of care is a huge increase in cost and time attributed to the consent process. Each hospital that you selected to include in your survey had to certify independently that they are disclosing the bare minimum of only that information which is absolutely vital to your study in an Internal Review Board. After jumping through all the hoops, your study reaches significant conclusions and you learned a valuable lesson. You must plan your research in advance, have prepared consent forms, have an IRB waiver or know how to rapidly access the IRB, and be ready to start your study immediately. Most important, by following the HIPAA requirements you kept the private information of patients private and your perseverance advanced the field of study. [Pg.49]
