A simple HTTP client program (e.g., fetch ) can be pointed at an HTTP server, accept lines of input from a standard input stream, send them as messages to an HTTP server, accept replies from that server and then write them to a standard output stream. The fetch program becomes a serial filter for any such HTTP server (which is now acting as a network compute server).

A major disadvantage is the time required for the computation. The entire algorithm (generation of 3-D structure, conformation analyses, property calculation, property mapping on surface or field and autocorrelation transformation) needs between 100 and 100000 s for one molecule. Computer and network security should be protected in several ways. Computer, server, and telecommunication rooms should be physically secured by locks. Computers should have firewalls and encryption available for sensitive documents. The principles of least access, need to know, and separation of functions should determine user authorizations rather than employee hierarchy. Only authorized personnel should have access to computer rooms and signs should not be posted indicating the location of the room. 

Nonmotive applications for 10 to 20 series Li-ion cells include stationary power hackup systems for telecom, computer servers, and desktop computers. A LIMS is a database management system designed especially for the tasks of a laboratory. Such a system can store a lot of data (not only about samples) and give information about the data. In addition to data related to the samples and orders, one can create files on, for example, all laboratory workers, holiday lists, analytical instruments (inventory), all relevant telephone numbers and postal and e-mail addresses, the stock of chemicals in use and in store, the stock of equipment, and books and other literature. As all these files create a requirement for storage capacity and performance, if information is searched for it is perhaps better to use a PC for this purpose. Nearly all the performance of the LIMS computer (server) is needed for the LIMS and should not be used for other activities. Only if there is a powerful computer for the LIMS could the mentioned files be stored in the frame of the LIMS database.
