Injector cleanliness additives and crankcase lubricant can form deposits in the nozzle area of injectors. The extent of deposit formation varies with engine design, fuel composition, lubricant composition, and operating conditions. Excessive deposits upset the injector spray patterns and these hinder the fuel-air mixing process. In some engines, this leads to increased emissions and fuel utilization. Ashless polymeric detergent additives can clean the fuel injector from deposits. [Pg.52]

There are clear differences between the response of lubricant formulations dependent upon the nature of the base oils used, the most sensitive to fuel and water dilution being the 60/40 PAO/Ester base oil composition. Lubricant C. [Pg.521]

Production of pentaerythritol in the United States has been erratic. Demand decreased in 1975 because of an economic recession and grew only moderately to 1980 (69). The range of uses for pentaerythritol has grown rapidly in lubricants (qv), fire-retardant compositions, adhesives, and other formulations where the cross-linking capabiUties are of critical importance. [Pg.466]

Almost all premium lubricants are so-called paraffinic oils composed primarily of both paraffinic and aUcycUc stmctures, with only a minor portion of aromatics. When stabilized with an oxidation inhibitor and fortified with other appropriate additives, these paraffinic—aUcycUc compositions provide nonsludging oils that are satisfactory for almost any type of service. [Pg.237]

Whereas the traditional dimethyl siloxane fluids provide very poor lubrication for steel on steel and other common metals, thin films on glass reduce handling damage, small amounts in plastic composites bleed to the surface for self-lubrication, and they provide a superior lubricant for mbber surfaces. [Pg.247]

The wide range of soHd lubricants can generally be classified as either inorganic compounds or organic polymers, both commonly used in a bonded coating on a matching substrate, plus chemical conversion coatings and metal films. Since solid-film lubricants often suffer from poor wear resistance and inabihty to self-heal any breaks in the film, search continues for improved compositions. [Pg.249]

Various other soft materials without the layer—lattice stmcture are used as soHd lubricants (58), eg, basic white lead or lead carbonate [598-63-0] used in thread compounds, lime [1305-78-8] as a carrier in wire drawing, talc [14807-96-6] and bentonite [1302-78-9] as fillers for grease for cable pulling, and zinc oxide [1314-13-2] in high load capacity greases. Graphite fluoride is effective as a thin-film lubricant up to 400°C and is especially useful with a suitable binder such as polyimide varnish (59). Boric acid has been shown to have promise as a self-replenishing soHd composite (60). [Pg.250]
