The overwhelming conclusion supported by data is the superiority of the FT-30 composite membrane for the majority of organic compounds tested. The summary of the bulk chemical compositions (major elements, minor elements, rare earth elements), Sr/ Sr (Farrell et al., 1978 Farrell and Holland, 1983), microscopic observation, and chemistry of spinel of unaltered basalt clarifies the tectonic setting of Kuroko deposits. Based on the geochemical data on the selected basalt samples which suffered very weak alteration, it can be pointed out that the basalt that erupted almost contemporaneously with the Kuroko mineralization was BABB (back-arc basin basalt) with geochemical features of which are intermediate between Island arc tholeiite and N-type MORE. Toxicology and environmental health studies often lack a firm foundation of baseline data, and the NASGLP is a perfect starting point for a baseline data survey. During the field component of the survey, the crews collected two composite samples. Results of this study confirm the expected improved recoveries of trace organics with membranes more selective and more highly cross-linked than the classical cellulose acetate membrane. Improved recoveries were predicted from literature data reported for similar membrane types. In light of these results, cellulose acetate should no longer be considered for applications such as these. Further improvements in recovery can be expected as developmental membranes with more highly selective barriers are brought into commercial use.
