Lemon-like

Of these phenyl-amyl alcohol has a pleasant, but somewhat evanescent lemon-like odour phenyl-hexyl alcohol has a very similar odour to this and phenyl-heptyl alcohol has a slight, but extremely agreeable odour [Pg.129]

CioHnN, M, 151.25, bp2 110-111 °C, df 0.845-colorless liquid with a strong, lemon-like odor. The nitrile can be prepared from citronellal oxime in the same way as geranic acid nitrile. 

Limonene is a liquid with lemon-like odor. It is a reactive compound oxidation often yields more than one product. Dehydrogenation leads to / -cymene. Limonene can be converted into cyclic terpene alcohols by hydrohalogenation, followed by hydrolysis. Nitrosyl chloride adds selectively to the endocyclic double bond this reaction is utilized in the manufacture of (—)-carvone from (+)-limonene (see p. 61). 

Cedrat. —The rind of the citron fruit—citrus medico, —yields the oil of cedrat, both by expression and distillation. Its odor is lemon-like. This oil is expensive, and is mixed" only with the finer perfumes. 

Features Separate stem for each flower and leaf grows from root they are round, slender, smooth, with a pinkish hue lower down. Leaves trifoliate, slightly hairy, yellow-green above, darkish purple underneath. Flowers five-petalled, white, purple veins, one to each slender flower stalk. Taste acid, rather lemon-like. 

Citral (= mixture of Melissa officinalis (balm oil) (Lamiaceae), OD-R (lemon-like)... 

CIC The lemon like cold pressed lime oil is characterized by a relatively high citral content, balanced with beta-pinene, gamma-terpinene and neryl acetate. The distilled oil is a mixture of acid catalyzed breakdown products of terpenes 1,4-cineole, 1,8-cineole and alpha-terpineol are the backbones of this oil, rounded off with gamma-terpinene, other terpene hydrocarbons and alcohols. 

With its citrusy, lemon-like, fresh and sweet odor, it is the most widely distributed monoteipenic hydrocarbon it has been detected in varying amounts in several hundred essential oils. 

The odor is citrusy-lemon-like, but rather gassy, styrene-like when undiluted. It bears some resemblance to the odor of phellandrene (Arctander, 1967). It is also described as solvent, hydrocarbon (Chemisis, 1983),... 

The odor is described as fresh, lemon-like, grassy-herbaceous, with a sweet-floral undertone. The overall lift is primarily fruity-green (Arctander, 1967), The flavor is green, fatty, nutty, sweet (Chemisis, 1995).
