Measurement locations should be permanently marked to ensure repeatability of data. If transducers are permanently mounted, the location can be marked with a center punch, paint, or any other method that identifies the point. For the compressor component, compressor maps are input directly. Pressure ratio and efficiency are provided as functions of relative corrected mass flow rate (CFLO) and corrected shaft speed (CORSPD). The compressor maps are further described in Reference 12-8. The compressor model uses the default junction control flags except no choking model is applied. The compressor performance is entirely described by the compressor maps. The autoclave is not the only component of an LDPE plant which may be exposed to a decomposition. Local hot spots in a secondary compressor may initiate a decomposition reaction consequendy it is necessary to protect these units from serious overpressure by pressure relieving devices and to release the products of the decomposition reactions safely. Miscellaneous Commercial Applications. Dimer acids are components of "downweU" corrosion inhibitors for oil-drilling equipment (see Petroleum Corrosion and corrosion inhibitors). This may account for 10% of current dimer acid use (71). The acids, alkyl esters, and polyoxyalkylene dimer esters are used commercially as components of metal-working lubricants (see Lubrication). Dimer esters have achieved some use in specialty lubricant appHcations such as gear oils and compressor lubricants. The dimer esters, compared to dibasic acid esters, polyol esters and poly(a-olefin)s, are higher in cost and of higher viscosity. The higher viscosity, however, is an advantage in some specialties, and the dimer esters are very stable thermally and can be made quite oxidatively stable by choice of proper additives. [Pg.117]

A compressor is typically a specially designed device, and comes with far less surplus capacity than other process components. As a result compressors merit great care in specification of flow, inlet pressure, and discharge pressure. Similarly, the control system and equipment need to be carefully matched to provide turndown with maximum efficiency. [Pg.229]

Fouling Industrial streams may contain condensable or reactive components which may coat, solvate, fill the free volume, or react with the membrane. Gases compressed by an oil-lubricated compressor may contain oil, or may be at the water dew point. Materials that will coat or harm the membrane must be removed before the gas is treated. Most membranes require removal of compressor oil. The extremely permeable poly(trimethylsilylpropyne) may not become a practical membrane because it loses its permeability rapidly. Part of the problem is pore collapse, but it seems extremely sensitive to contamination even by diffusion pump oil and gaskets [Robeson, op. cit., (1994)]. [Pg.2050]

Figure 11.26 shows a component removed from an air-conditioning compressor. Pinhole perforations in this component had allowed cooling water to leak into the freon. Many failures of this type had occurred previously. Examinations of the internal surfaces of both the canister and the tubes entering it revealed evidence of metal loss. Tiny perforations at the bases of deep grooves were noted in the tubes. Deep, general, smooth metal loss surrounded irregular islands of intact surface (Fig. 11.27). The canister walls displayed a similar metal loss and comet-tail-shaped depressions (Fig. 11.2). Figure 11.26 shows a component removed from an air-conditioning compressor. More details of operation in an actual study can be seen in Berty et al, (1982). In tliis work, a condenser and a liquid-gas separator were used in the product line before the pressure let-down. Keeping the products all in the vapor phase was difficult. Other improvements later included a continuous, four-component, feedgas make-up system with a compressor. [Pg.87]

Sealing of turboexpander and compressor process gas from die bearing housing differs for air separation and natural gas applications. The bearing housing is usually sealed in cold expanders and for cases when die process gas contains heavy hydrocarbon components, which may cause condensation in die bearing housing. [Pg.337]

The inward-flow radial turbine has many components similar to a centrifugal compressor. There are two types of inward-flow radial turbines the cantilever and the mixed-flow. The cantilever type in Figure 1-34 is similar to an axial-flow turbine, but it has radial blading.
