System Evacuation

This section describes the main types of offshore production platform and satellite development facilities, as well as associated evacuation systems. [Pg.264]

The OREDA Offshore Reliability Data Handbooks covers a variety of components used in offshore oil drilling and platforms, including gas/fire detection systems, process alarm systems, firefighting systems, pressure relieving systems, general alarm and communication systems, evacuation systems, process systems (vessels, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and compressors), electrical and utility systems, and drilling equipment. [Pg.9]

Dearation can be either vacuum or over pressure dearation. Most systems use vacuum dearation because all the feedwater heating can be done in the feedwater tank and there is no need for additional heat exchangers. The heating steam in the vacuum dearation process is a lower quality steam thus leaving the steam in the steam cycle for expansion work through the steam turbine. This increases the output of the steam turbine and therefore the efficiency of the combined cycle. In the case of the overpressure dearation, the gases can be exhausted directly to the atmosphere independently of the condenser evacuation system. [Pg.91]

Eor good control, design the pressure drop for the control valve between the fractionating system and the jet system for sonic velocity (approximately 2 1 pressure ratio). This means that the jets suction must be designed for half the absolute pressure of the evacuated system. [Pg.199]

The VPS overhead consists of steam, inerts, condensable and non-condensable hydrocarbons. The condensables result from low boiling material present in the reduced crude feed and from entrainment of liquid from the VPS top tray. The noncondensables result from cracking at the high temperatures employed in the VPS. Inerts result from leakage of air into the evacuated system. Steam and condensable hydrocarbons are condensed using an overhead water-cooled condenser. The distillate drum serves to separate inerts and non-condensables from condensate, as well as liquid hydrocarbons from water. Vacuum is maintained in the VPS using steam jet ejectors. [Pg.231]

The use of a source capture or a direct evacuation system is the most positive form of fume capture. A well-designed system can operate at high fume capture efficiencies. For many of these systems, the captured gas temperature for the processing operation is very high (1000-1500 °C), and gas cooling may be required... [Pg.1275]

The sample is placed in the barrel of the pistol and a drying agent (usually P2O5) placed in the handle. The evacuated system is heated by refluxing a liquid of the desired boiling point over the sample. [Pg.184]

The application of high tension (e.g. 20 kV, 0.5 MHz) in an evacuated system (0.2. .. 8 torr) causes the residual gas to form a highly ionized mixture of positive and negative ions, electrons, photons and neutral gas molecules. In the presence of active sorbents this plasma reacts with the chromatographically separated substances to eld reactive ions and radicals. [Pg.28]

A particle falling freely in vacuum is subjected to a constant acceleration, and its velocity increases continuously. The velocity at any point depends only on the distance from the starting point, and is independent of the size and the density of the particle. Thus a heavy stone and a feather fall at exactly the same rate in an evacuated system. However, in the event of a particle falling in a fluid medium, there is resistance to this fall or movement. The resistance increases as the velocity of the particle increases, and this continues until the forces tending to accelerate the particle and the fluid resistance forces become equal. The particle is then said to have attained its terminal velocity it continues to fall, but with a uniform velocity. [Pg.151]

Charging and tapping emissions are controlled by a variety of evacuation systems and operating practices. Charging hoods, tapside enclosures, and full furnace enclosures are used in the industry to capture these emissions and send them to either the primary hood gas cleaner or a second gas cleaner.1516 Pollution prevention opportunities for the reduction of heavy metals at the BOF are limited as heavy metals are an inherent part of the iron ore material stream, so the higher the iron production, the greater will be the use of the ore. [Pg.52]

Other cell designs, flow cells, can be found in literature [47]. In this design, a flow sonoelectrochemical reactor is the operational unit in a batch recirculation system, see Fig. 4.4. In this, analyzing the performance of the sonoelectrochemical degradation of trichloroacetic acid, influence of the fluid flow, gases evacuation system and, especially, the maintenance of the values of the performance parameters in the scale-up were checked. [Pg.113]

Hold a briefing for entry personnel and support crew. Ensure that all staff on scene understand emergency signals, preplanned escape routes, locations of Hot/Warm/ Cold zones, operational hazards at this site, the evacuation system, the buddy system, the need for appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) the potential need to decontaminate rescuers and their equipment, and contaminated persons location of rehabilitation area, possible air space closure over incident site, etc. [Pg.63]

Glass apparatus should be carefully examined before use and any which is cracked, chipped, flawed or dirty should be rejected. Minute cracks in glassware for use in evacuated systems are particularly dangerous. [Pg.30]
