Complexity Criteria

Using clear procedures to ensure wearing of appropriate safety equipment (avoid gray areas of interpretation). Avoid having complex criteria for determining the recommended personnel protective equipment (simple is easier to understand and to follow). 

If V is a function of more than one variable, then more complex criteria for determining maxima and minima are obtained. Generally, but not always, the second partial derivatives of the function with respect to all its variables are sufficient to determine the character of a stationary value of V. For such functions, the theory of quadratic forms as described by Langhaar [B-1] should be examined. 

If you read that book by Bok and Bowen1 you can see that the elite institutions are using more complex criteria, and it really pays off in the nature of the class that you get. I can talk about students...

In hterature, some methods are described in order to evaluate the filter effect of some typical conformity criteria, based on Bayesian statistics. However, in practice also more complex criteria are used, for example in the European Standard EN206-1 (CEN 2001). In order to evaluate the filtering effect of these more complex criteria, a numerical algorithm is developed, based on Bayesian statistics and numerical integration. As can be seen from the preceding discussion, CMP pads are designed (and chosen by device manufacturers) with several criteria in mind, including defect performance, pad life, etc., and hence their compatibility with ULK film CMP is yet another criterion that needs to be added to the mix. As a result of such complex criteria, it may even be necessary to choose a pad that modifies the ULK (temporarily) to the minimal degree permissible, and fashion a scheme to recover the characteristics of the ULK film. Consider carefully the eligibility criteria. The simpler they are, and the less discretion they offer to eligibility intake officers, the less opportunity there will be for corruption. In the case of a means-tested program, benefit allocation decisions are based on relatively complex criteria that require providers to make judgments, and they may have a tendency to be lenient with respect to these. Benefit providers do not have a financial incentive to limit program expenses, and may therefore allocate benefits in borderline cases to increase output and case numbers. Individual social workers usually find it more gratifying to help than to deny assistance to applicants, and local communities will welcome the extra infusion of cash.
