The efficacy of IV thrombolysis in patients with moderate-to-severe strokes due to proximal arterial occlusions is restricted by several factors, including the relatively short therapeutic window, poor recanalization rates as the clot burden increases, restrictive eligibility criteria, and the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage. Clinical trials are conducted according to GCP. There should be a protocol that states the reason for the clinical trial, how it is to be conducted, the number of people to be included, eligibility criteria, medical tests and observations to be made, and information to be collected. Clinical trial protocol must be approved by the IRB/IEC before commencement. 

An I EC should review the advertisement or the recording of the proposed video or audio message before it is pubhcised. Only limited information should be presented - the name and address of the clinical investigator, the purpose of the research and, in summary form, the eligibility criteria for the study, a precise description of any benefits to the subject, the time or other commitment required by the subject, the location of the research and the person to contact for information. A common lesson distilled from experience with voucher programs is the importance of careful consideration of targeting voucher eligibility criteria and phase-out conditions. The relatively small value of a vaccine voucher makes this scenario unlikely. Adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, breast tenderness, changes in body weight, fluid retention and thrombosis. World Health Organization (WHO) medical eligibility criteria for COC use should be consulted. 

Reporting of adverse effects of treatment in trials and systematic reviews is often poor. In a review of 192 pharmaceutical trials, less then a third had adequate reporting of adverse clinical events or laboratory toxicology (loannidis and Contopoulos-Ioannidis 1998).
