There are scant data available on the effectiveness of patient-to-doctor e-mail communications as a realized benefit of integrated healthcare systems. However, a 2010 Kaiser study of diabetes and hypertension patients indicated improvements for patients using this communication tool. The integrated Kaiser system overcomes a key barrier to adoption by doctors of eHealthcare that relates to reimbursement for these forms of communications [13].
