Communication tool

The pareto chart, tool number six, is a special type of histogram (48) where the frequency data is grouped in order of decreasing occurrence or other measures of importance rather than in sequential or numerical order. The chart, an example of which is shown in Figure 6, illustrates the causes in decreasing order of importance. It enables the improvement effort to be focused where it can have the most impact and is an effective management communication tool. 

In a more quantitative sense, cause-consequence analysis may be viewed as a blend of fault tree end event tree analysis (discussed in tlie two preceding cliapters) for evaluating potential accidents. A major strengtli of cause-consequence analysis is its use as a communication tool. For example, a cause-consequence diagram displays the interrelationships between tlie accident outcomes (consequences) and Uieir basic causes. The method can be used to quantify the expected frequency of occurrence of the consequences if the appropriate chita are available.

E-mail as a communication tool has a number of drawbacks. First, it is vulnerable to being intercepted. This is a major security problem, especially when sensitive files are attached. In its Nature More scheme, products are scored in terms of compliance with organic, health and environmental standards. This is done as an add-on to the organic certification process. By entering a code that is on the product label, the consumer can see how the product he or she purchased scores. It is a communication tool that links the farmers to the consumers. 

I started thinking about the proposal as a communication tool to market my ideas. 1 no longer expect the reviewer to do a lot of work to understand my ideas or recognize the significance of my proposal. I assume it is my job to convince the reader that the problem I am working on and the solution 1 have proposed are compelling and have high value.
