Communication executive summaries

This information sheet from the Health and Safety Executive summaries the health hazards that can arise from exposure to styrene. It provides practical advance to FRP manufacturers on how to assess and control styrene levels in the workplace and how these control measures should be monitored and maintained in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002. The document applies mainly to contact moulding processes, and aims to define what level of control is currently recognised as being reasonably practicable. The concept should be presented in the form of an executive summary. As the first element of evaluation, it is a GO/NO GO criterion. This means that this section of the deliverables must be clearly communicated for the project to even be considered. The concept is made up of five parts the vision, targeted product(s), targeted technology, targeted market(s), and the intended benefits to the customer. In contrast to the other deliverables, there are no increasing hiudles for this criterion. The concept should, however, be reassessed constantly and may change as the project moves toward commercialization.

Executive summaries are means of communicating to people in top management positions, such as a vice president of a company, the findings of a detailed study or a proposal. The executive summary, as the name implies, must be brief and concise. It is generally no more than a few pages long. In the executive summary, references may be made to more comprehensive reports so that readers can obtain additional information if they so desire. 

This component on Information and Communications, examines perhaps the most dynamically growing capability in the chemical sciences. The findings reported in the Executive Summary and in greater depth in the body of the text constitute what the committee believes to be viable and important guidance to help the chemical sciences community to take full advantage of growing IT capabilities for the advancement of the chemical sciences and technology— and thereby for the betterment of our society and our world. 

In many companies, a major Management Review process is conducted annually and a summary progress report carrying the signature of the chief executive officer is published. Such reports may be made available broadly, such as on the Internet. Publication of the reports serves the purposes of good community relations as well as good employee relations. 

An important problem in safety-critical software development results from its ever increasing complexity and from the fact that software functions often interact strongly with different contexts in event-based systems. This can be a physical context (e.g. a monitored and controlled device), human users in an organizational context, or other software and hardware (e.g. a device driver). Other factors increasing the complexity of this problem are asynchronous communication with and within the system, event-driven behaviour, complex data types, timing constraints, parallel execution and non-deterministic behaviour of the system under test.
