Table 4-15 lists base materials Elliott has tested. This list, which is continually being expanded, includes low alloy steels, high alloy iron base, nickel base, cobalt base materials, and odiers. Table 4-16 shows some of the coatings Elliott has tested. The list indicates die supplier, coating designation, and major components of the coating composition. [Pg.248]

Since the previous edition was written, the main development has been the introduction of a range of zinc alloy coatings designed to give increased corrosion resistance and sometimes with additional advantages such as increased formability and retention of paint adhesion with a wider range of paints. [Pg.497]

There are four types of SCS fibers depending on the thickness of the final SiC coating designed for different metal matrices. They are the standard SCS, SCS-2, SCS-6 and SCS-8. Fig. 5.30 illustrates schematically the cross sections of two commercially produced SiC fibers, the standard SCS and SCS-6 fibers, according to DiCarlo (1988). Both types of fibers consist of a carbon core of 37 pm in diameter, a SiC sheath of varying thickness and a carbon-rich surface coating of 0-4 pm in... [Pg.216]

Another method employed to minimize fouling is the use of phospholipid coating designed to mimic the normal mammalian cell membrane. The best studied of these compounds has been phosphorylcholine (PC). For example, Goreish et al. applied PC to polyethylene terephthalate substrate and found that PC decreased the number of inflammatory cells that bound to the substrate.79 More important, they also implanted PC-coated substrates intramuscularly in rabbits and found that at week 13, the encapsulation tissue as a result of the foreign body reaction was much thinner in the PC-treated tissue samples. [Pg.72]

Anti-reflection coating An optical thin film interference coating designed to minimize reflections that occur when light travels from one medium into another. [Pg.155]

For coating design, it is usual to design for the worst case, namely a rigid backing structure. In this case Z3 approaches infinity, M = COSQ2, N = Z /z2 sinQ2 IVT = M, and N = N. Then equation 16 becomes ... [Pg.215]

A PPG cathodic E-coat, designated E2, was used. The chromated spray primers employed were water-borne Deft 44-GN-36 (A) or 44-GN-72 (Al) (Deft Corporation, Irvine, CA) and solvent-borne Courtauld 519X303 (G) (Courtauld Aerospace, Glendale, CA). The nonchromated spray primers were water-borne Dexter lO-PW-22-2 (X) (Dexter Corporation, Waukegan, IE) and water-borne Spraylat EWAE118 (D) (Spraylat Corporation, Chicago, IE). [Pg.678]

Acrylic coatings designed for their crack-bridging capability are based on soft polymers which have a low glass transition temperature (as low as -45°C). Such coatings move with cracks in a wall over a wide range of temperatures and prevent ingress of bulk water and penetration by carbon dioxide and chloride ions. [Pg.113]

Primer A compatible coating designed to enhance adhesion. Redispersible powder Polymers typically produced by spray-drying isolation of the specially designed latex such as those of acrylics, vinyl acetate, etc. Depending on the nature of the resin type, a suitable amount of inorganic filler is added to the powders to prevent caking. [Pg.221]
