Classroom time learning

We have found that a ratio of field time to classroom time of 1 2 was best for learning identification. We found it useful to leave as early as possible in the morning and look at plants in situ, and then collect specimens in field presses and in plastic bags for examination back at the classroom. We left all the literature behind when going into the field. We used field stations with concrete floors, insect-proof buildings and electric lights the educational experience is far greater in comfortable conditions. [Pg.165]

Academy training generally lasts several weeks, with part of the time spent on classroom instruction and part on practical training. You will cover areas such as firefighting and prevention techniques, hazardous and combustible materials, local building codes, and emergency medical procedures. You will also learn how to use various kinds of firefighting and rescue equipment. [Pg.17]

On-the-Job learning too often wastes managers time by having them re-invent wheels that they could learn about much more readily in a classroom or from a book. Moreover, since any competent management educator knows what these wheels are, why get managers to go beating about the bush of experience In order to learn ... [Pg.29]

Formulating skills cannot be easily learned in the classroom or from reading books. These sources can provide a starting point and a road map, but that is not the end point. Formulating is somewhat of an art and as such can only be effectively learned at the bench by practicing and, unfortunately, often by trial and error. This book can be a means of reducing the time, cost, and potential problems inherent in this process. [Pg.553]

A second important premise that underlies much of the learning and social development theory in the social sciences is that most development occurs in interaction with others, from the time that we are toddlers and into our adult years. Our interactions with others allow us to develop our own views in relation to others. Thus, facilitating interaction in the classroom can also enhance learning. [Pg.18]

I learned a long time ago that the English departments in our colleges and universities had a much closer attachment to students because, first of all, they restricted the size of their classrooms to 20-30 students they said that they could not effectively teach any more than that. We have not been so smart about that. [Pg.103]

Advantages Who better to cater to a child s special needs than the person who has the closest interaction with him Unfortunately, and through no fault of their own, most public school teachers do not have the luxury of forging a one-on-one relationship with a student in a classroom with up to twenty students. Often, by the time a teacher finds the methods that really click with a student with special needs, it is time for that student to move on to the next grade level. In the homeschooling environment, a parent can tailor a child s educational experience to fit the child s needs. Whether it is unschooling or curriculum-based learning, the child learns in the fashion that best fits his needs. [Pg.10]

Classroom Discussion Class discussions, effectively led by the teacher, are important vehicles for science learning. Research shows that the way questions are asked, as well as the time allowed for responses, can contribute to the quality of the discussion. [Pg.7]
