Classroom time

Once you have chosen course content, you will want to think about how you will spend classroom time. Many professors use the traditional lecture,... [Pg.8]

A physical chemistry instructor is faced with a number of decisions the goals and objectives of the course, the level of presentation, the choice of textbook, what topics to include, the sequence of topics, the balance between fundamentals and applications, the amount of homework to assign, the use of classroom time, and so forth. Of the students in the class, only a small fraction might intend to become physical chemists. The physical chemistry instructor must make his or her decisions in this context. [Pg.28]

I realize going through our orientation process, including the classroom time and days out with our driver trainers can be tough, but you successfully completed your training and deserve recognition for this accomplishment. Nice job, Chris. ... [Pg.1075]

We have found that a ratio of field time to classroom time of 1 2 was best for learning identification. We found it useful to leave as early as possible in the morning and look at plants in situ, and then collect specimens in field presses and in plastic bags for examination back at the classroom. We left all the literature behind when going into the field. We used field stations with concrete floors, insect-proof buildings and electric lights the educational experience is far greater in comfortable conditions. [Pg.165]

Demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) is one approach to reduce energy consumption due to ventilation, that is gaining popularity in both industrial and nonindustrial applications. It is used in cases where ventilation requirements vary with time, regularly or irregularly. The control is based on a specified level of indoor air quality by means of continuous measurement of the parameters, that are expected to primarily determine the lAQ, such as the concentration of the main contaminant liberated from the production process. The principle is thus similar to the one in some better-known nonindustrial applications, e.g., CO2 levels in rooms with dense human occupancy (theaters, classrooms, etc.) or nicotine concentration in smoking rooms. See also Section 9.6. [Pg.802]

The greater part of Parsons childhood was spent at the family s castle and estate at Parsonstown (now Birr), County Offaly, Ireland. The workshops there were extensive, and he grew up surrounded by tools and machinei y. He was privately educated by, among others, Sir Robert Ball, a man who encouraged him to spend time not just in the classroom, hut also in the workshops. With these facilities and the guidance of his parents aird tutor, he developed an exceptional talent for engineering. [Pg.933]

Dining the action research, teachers wrote their reflective diaries that this procedure helped them to reflect on what they have done with their time, on what they had taught and what they were to teach. In the diary they recorded detailed descriptions of classroom practice. It was also a valuable tool in helping them to deal with emotionally challenging situations. Diaries included entries on what happened during the lessons, what they thought about those lessons and how they reacted to what had... [Pg.317]

Additionally, the pressure equivalent of the heights of the water above and below the initial point must be calculated and either added to or subtracted from the corrected pressure for each case. Because mercury is 13.6 times as dense as water, any column of water can be converted to mm Hg, or torr, by dividing the water column height, in mm, by 13.6. Water is used instead of mercury because liquid mercury and its vapors are highly toxic and cannot be safely used in the classroom laboratory. [Pg.109]

KRISTI LEW is a former high school science teacher with degrees in biochemistry and genetics. After years in the classroom and cytogenetics laboratories, she decided that she wanted to write full-time. She is the author of more than 20 nonfiction science books for students and teachers. [Pg.124]

Other factors also provided a degree of added stability to unit processes. In particular, the analytical "taxonomy" offered by Shreve in 1937 not only played an important role in the classroom, it also provided a useful guide for designing a chemical reactor whenever a series of approximations had to replace the equations ruling a well-defined model - and that was most of the time (49). [Pg.69]

At the same time, homeland is established by the physical objects that give a physical space a special identity the balances, spectrometers, chromatographs, test tubes, electrometers, computers, even the office and library spaces, lecture halls, and classrooms that the member of a discipline instantly recognizes as his or her peculiar place. [Pg.45]

In almost every high school or college class, you can expect at least part, if not all, of your evaluation for the term to be based on your written work. In a college literature class, for example, 100% of your grade will probably be based on two out-of-class essays, an in-class midterm, and a final essay, which maybe a timed exam. In a political science class, your midterm and final exams might include multiple-choice, short answer, and essay questions. Your success in school depends heavily on your ability to write effectively, both in and out of the classroom. [Pg.10]
