Classification example

Material behavior have many classifications. Examples are (1) creep, and relaxation behavior with a primary load environment of high or moderate temperatures (2) fatigue, viscoelastic, and elastic range vibration or impact (3) fluidlike flow, as a solid to a gas, which is a very high velocity or hypervelocity impact and (4) crack propagation and environmental embrittlement, as well as ductile and brittle fractures. 

The electronic nose arrays have today successfully been used in a vast number of applications. The electronic noses are particularly appealing in food analysis since they resemble the traditional way of controlling the quality of foodstuffs. The electronic nose is already applied as a complement to sensory test panels in the food industry for product quality classification. Examples of applications are classification of grains [6] and beer [7]. Examples of other consumables tested are tobacco [8] and perfumes [9]. Applications in other areas such as environmental control and pulp and paper quality are also reported in over five hundred references currently found in the literature on electronic noses. 

The essence of the differences between the operation of radial basis function networks and multilayer perceptrons can be seen in Figure 4.1, which shows data from the hypothetical classification example discussed in Chapter 3. Multilayer perceptrons classify data by the use of hyperplanes that divide the data space into discrete areas radial basis functions, on the other hand, cluster the data into a finite number of ellipsoid regions. Classification is then a matter of finding which ellipsoid is closest for a given test data point. 

We now categorize the basis atomic orbitals in any, roughly spherical, cluster according to the number of nodal planes they possess that contain the radius vector. Hence, s atomic orbitals are classified as cr-type cluster orbitals, and so are p and d 2 orbitals, where the local axes at each vertex are chosen with the X and y directions tangential to the surface of the sphere so that z points outwards along the radius vector. Radially directed hybrids, such as sp are also a-type under this classification. Examples will be illustrated below. 7r-type cluster orbitals have one intrinsic nodal plane containing the radius vector, for example, p , Py, and dy in the same axis system. A y and Aj 2 y2 functions contain two such nodal planes, and are known as 5 orbitals. ...

Disposition or disposal of chemicals from the end-user facility follows established programs for the disposal of chemicals based on their classification. Examples of different classifications include radioactive wastes, hazardous wastes, mixed wastes, sanitary wastes, and high-level wastes. Chemicals that are not consumed are evaluated by the CCMC for usability. If it is determined that the ehemicals are viable and usable, they are declared as excess and accepted into the Excess Chemical Program and are thus made available for use by any organization on site.
