Once the class boundaries are defined, it is important to determine whether any of the classes in the training set overlap. This indicates the discriminating power of the SIMCA models and will impact the confidence that can be placed on future predictions. The structures of PS II inhibitors are diverse and cover almost all aspects of organic chemistry. Despite numerous structure-activity studies within classes of PS II inhibitors, little work has been done to correlate activity across class boundaries. Clearly, a system that could accommodate these diverse structures should facilitate the design of new PS II inhibitors.
